The Military Court in Indaw Town, situated in the Katha District of Sagaing Region, issued long prison sentences for four inmates, which includes a woman, on 2 September.

The convicted inmates are reportedly Ko Zaw Myo Naing, Ko Tin Maung Win, Ma Thida Win, and Ko Kyaw Thet. These four were arrested by Military Council soldiers at the Indaw Town’s military checkpoint in July this year, an official of the Indaw Revolution (IR) told Mizzima.

Among those who were detained, Ko Zaw Myo Naing received a life sentence, as per Section 50 (j) and Section 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Act. In a similar vein, Ko Tin Maung Win was handed a life sentence under Section 50 (j) and Section 124 (c) of the Penal Code, which pertain to high treason and sedition. Ko Kyaw Thet and Ma Thida Win, on the other hand, were sentenced to seven years in prison, in accordance with Sections 52 (a) and 52 (b) of the Counter-Terrorism Act.

The IR official asserted that Ko Zaw Myo Naing was from Naungpinsu Ward, Indaw Town, whereas the residences of the other three individuals remained undisclosed.

The Military Council's propaganda Telegram channel, Fifty Two News, reported that Ko Zaw Myo Naing and Ko Tin Maung Win received life sentences due to their alleged involvement in supplying food to the PDF, participating in PDF activities, and undergoing PDF training.

Furthermore, Ko Kyaw Thet and Ma Thida Win were handed seven-year sentences with hard labour because of their purported communication with PDF organizations and reporting the activities of the security forces to the PDF.

According to the IR official, people are being arrested on a daily basis in Indaw, with a minimum of ten people having received life sentences.

On 18 August of this year, the military regime's Telegram channels declared the imposition of the death penalty on four civilians who had been charged with violations of Section 49 (a) and Section 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Act, as per the judgment of the Indaw Military Court.
