The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In the statement for International Human Rights Day, the Acting President of the NUG said that the public had to face human rights violations and international crimes by the military junta on a daily basis.
  • The Acting President said that the military junta could not forbid the strong determination and courage of the public. There were still protests against the military dictatorship in various ways, including the faith-based CDM movement.
  • The NUG expressed thanks to the public who had been risking their lives and fighting for human rights in various ways.
  • In the announcement on International Human Rights Day, the NUG claimed that the Spring Revolution (2021) would put an end to all the inequalities throughout Myanmar’s history, with the intention to build a new federal democratic nation providing freedom, equality and justice, which could ensure human rights and human dignity of all people.
  • On International Human Rights Day, the NUG made an announcement of appreciation for the Myanmar people with a high value on human rights and their fight against the military dictatorship.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights-NUG, said that the military junta themselves were in fear while frightening the public. He also said words of thanks to the public who had given the loudest silence to dictators in a “silent” protest.

Revolution Activities

  • Starting from 10:00 am Friday, there were silent strikes against the military dictatorship throughout the country, from rural villages to big cities like Yangon.
  • In Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region, the junta army put pressure on shopkeepers to open their shops at 3:00 pm. They also threatened that shops would be closed down if they were not opened on Friday.
  • In Hommalin and Wuntho, local residents took part in a silent strike with closed shops and deserted streets.
  • At the north west plain area in Monywa Township, the public carried out a march against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In all townships of Sagaing Region, local people participated in the silent strike. Reportedly, even the market of north west military headquarters (Monywa- NaMaKa Market) was closed.
  • On Friday morning, Shwebo townspeople in black conducted a silent march against the military dictatorship.
  • In Dibeyin Township, local people marched against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • On Friday morning, Kalay people in black marched against the military dictatorship, holding signs - ‘Our town belongs to us. We will do whatever we want’.
  • In Kani Township, an alliance of local PDFs attacked a convoy of 11 military vessels going down Chindwin River between Kin Village and Pekinma Village at about 9:00 am Friday. Reportedly, a vessel caught fire and stopped near Pekinma Village.
  • According to local residents, there was a silent strike with closed shops and deserted streets in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • In Pyin Oo Lwin with military training schools, most shops were closed as a silent strike against the military dictatorship.
  • On International Human Rights Day, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta campaign, showing that they stand with the public with silent human rights.
  • In Pathein of Ayeyarwaddy Region, shops and markets were closed from 10:00 am Friday and local residents joined the silent strike.
  • In honor of Myanmar people who had been shot dead by the junta army in protests against the military dictatorship, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish embassies in Yangon conducted an event on International Human Rights Day with 1323 roses.
  • In all townships of Kachin State, local residents joined the silent strike against the military dictatorship.
  • On Friday, people from all walks of life took part in the silent strike and black campaign throughout the country.
  • In Mingaladone Township, as area of the junta army, the whole market was silent and deserted with closed shops at 8:00 am Friday.
  • In Thaketa Township, anti-junta youth expressed their desire at about 7:00 am Friday, hanging a poster on the wall of No. (2) high school - ‘We will never kneel down under the junta army boots’.
  • According to local residents, the junta army made announcements through loud speakers all over the country on Thursday night, telling the public to go out on 10th December as they would provide security measures and not to join the silent strike.
  • In Kayah (Karenni) State, youth and women in black expressed their desire against the military dictatorship at 6:00 am Friday.
  • In Yaw Area of Magwe Region, a junta helicopter dropped propaganda brochures near Mauklin Village and Kyaw Village in Gantgaw Township.
  • At about 2:00 am Friday, Dankai junta inspection booth was attacked by a combined force of local PDFs.
  • In Shan State, a total of 4 people, including press people from Kambawza Times Media who had been imprisoned for over 8 months, were sentenced to 3 years in prison at the junta court in prison on Friday.
  • To celebrate the success of the Silent Strike, the public clapped against the military dictatorship all across the country.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to a communication person of KNU, the junta border guard force asked for a pig weighing 50 viss and 5 trucks of timber from local residents by force as a response against the fighting in which a military car had been attacked with mines by the KNLA between Noyagone Village and Tada-U Village on 5th December.

The Military Council

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that Pyin Oo Lwin must be developed as a Clean City, Green City and then, proceed to be a Smart City with the use of existing resources like Yadanabone Cybercity and near-by airport.
  • The junta Central Bank announced that it was just a rumour that 20,000 MMK and 50,000 MMK bills would be released.
  • In his statement to on International Human Rights Day, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they had been implementing the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) for eternal peace, with the intention for ethnic people to enjoy the fruits of peace and development on an equal basis.
  • The military junta announced their objection to the statement of the UN Security Council on Myanmar’s affairs by Mr. Abdou Abarry; Chair of Security Council; and the statements by Ms. Michelle Bachelet; UNHCR Commissioner; Mr. Thomas Andrews who submitted a report on Myanmar’s human rights, and Mr. Stephane Dujarric; spokesperson of the UN Secretary General.
  • The military junta announced that to honour the 75th anniversary of Union Day, the Ethnic Festival (2021) would be broadcast via MRTV HD and NRC channels from 11th to 15th December.
  • On Friday afternoon, responsible personnel of the junta MRTV joined the workshop on safe and secure internet as well as best practices for the use of social media, conducted by Ministry of Information and Communication-Vietnam via video conferencing.

Summary on 10th December

  • The public from all over the country joined silent strike against the military dictatorship. Before the protest, the junta armed people put pressure in various ways. Despite that, people from all walks of life expressed their disapproval of the military junta.
  • In Sagaing Region, local people took part in the silent strike. On the other hand, there were battles between local PDFs and the junta armed forces. As for Yangon, Magwe, Ayeyarwaddy and Kayah, they had some battles and activities of guerrilla revolution.
