Spring Revolution Daily News for 15 July 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On Thursday, the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration conducted their meeting. There, the Chair of the Committee and Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that they had repeatedly informed their willingness to join hands with any organizations which have the common goal. 
  • The Central Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) released a statement, calling on the ASEAN leaders to keep the commitment to the ASEAN 5-Point Consensus including the release of all political prisoners including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. 
  • On Wednesday, there was the 6th meeting between Federal Health Professional Council and the Interim Federal Nurse and Midwife Council. 
  • On Thursday, there was a meeting between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 
  • In Titain Township of Chin State, the revolutionary forces managed to take control of the junta army camp in Thein Ngin Village at about 5:00 am on 11 July. According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, 15 junta soldiers died. 
  • Under the Ministry of Defence-NUG, People’s Defence Force Federal Column completed their training (Batch 4) on Wednesday. 
  • In Pulaw Township of Taninthayi Region, local PDF arrested a drug dealer at his house in Lakku Village on Thursday. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting held in Indonesia released a statement, denouncing the violence including conducting air strikes, firing heavy artillery and destroying the public’s property in Myanmar. 
  • General Strike Coordination Body announced that the military junta had been trying to take political advantage of the meeting between Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the Foreign Minister of Thailand. They added that there was no reason to discuss for a bloody debt and they would continue their protest against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe led a march against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army killed an old woman aged 90 by burning in Myogyi Village at about 3:00 pm Wednesday. They also set fire to over 50 houses. 
  • In Kalay Township, the junta army fired mortars into local villages on Thursday night. Reportedly, 2 people lost lives whereas 4 others including a child aged 3 got injured. 
  • The S&C donated some desks to a local school which had faced an air strike and the fire by the junta army. 
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, local PDF attacked a bunker in front of Kamma Police Station on Thursday. Reportedly, a junta policeman died. 
  • In Saw Township, the junta army set fire to Yinke Village at about 11:00 am Friday. 
  • In Wandwin of Mandalay Region, Police Officer Thein Zaw Moe was shot dead in Ward (1) at about 6:00 pm Thursday. 
  • In Pekone Township of Shan State, there was a mine attack on a junta vehicle at 8:00 pm on 9 July. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Maesal Township of Karenni State, there was an aerial bombing on Dawnoku IDP Camp at 1:00 am Wednesday. Consequently, a displaced person aged 30 lost their life whereas the school was damaged. 
  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, local schools were damaged due to the heavy artillery and air strikes by the junta armed forces. Consequently, some public schools in villages had to be closed. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, local CDF attacked the junta army and the junta inspection gates on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • The CDF CDM based in Titain announced that the public were not to use Kalay-Thein Ngin Road on the border of Sagaing and Chin starting on Friday. 
  • In Tunzan Township, there was a local battle at 10:00 am Thursday. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • On Thursday morning, a combined force of the KNLA and the PDF made inspection on Mawlamyein-Yay-Dawei No. (8) Union Road. 
  • In Pekone Township on the border of Shan South and Karenni State, there were 13 battles near Kaung-Ei Village in June. Reportedly, 19 junta soldiers died whereas a member of local PDF lost life. 
  • In the area under the control of the Karen National Liberation Army Brigade (5), 146 junta soldiers died in local battles in June. 
  • According to the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the military junta has been sending a large number of their forces near Namsanyan Village, just 12 miles away from the Headquarters of the KIA. Consequently, there have been heavy battles recently. 

The Military Council 

  • In a union government meeting on Thursday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed that the high cost of living was caused by the inbalance of production and consumption in the livestock sector. 
  • The junta leader stated that it was necessary to take legal action against the use of agricultural land for other purposes. 
  • On Thursday, the junta Union Election Commission inspected Democratic Force Labor Party based in Mandalay in accordance with the political parties registration law and by-law. 
  • The junta Central Bank announced on Thursday that exporters need to exchange only 50% of their export income for local currency (MMK). 
  • On Wednesday, the lawyers made statements related to the corrupt charges for helicopters against U Win Myint and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at the Union Supreme Court. 
  • Soe Htut, the junta Minister of Home Affairs and the right-hand man of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, has been suffering from colon cancer and he can no longer serve his duties. 
  • The junta Ministry of Electricity announced that they managed to provide electricity again to all townships in Rakhine State, which had faced the Cyclone Mocha. 

Summary on 15 July 

  • To cover up his mismanagement causing the high cost of living, the junta leader accusingly blamed the lack of innovation among the public. 
  • Despite the amendment of the rule for the amount of export income to be exchanged for MMK, the military junta still has placed controls on the dollar market.
