The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG Ministry of Human Rights announced that the military junta had committed 64 cases of mass murder with more than five people per group over the coup’s period of two years, killing a total of 766 people.
  • Regarding the junta’s mass murder of 22 people in Nan Naing Village, the NUG, the KSCC and the PNFC released a joint statement on Thursday, calling on the international community to coordinate with the NUG and ethnic revolutionary forces and provide assistance as soon as possible.
  • On Wednesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and People’s Administrative Teams. There, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, the NUG Minister of Education and Health, stated that they had been joining hands with organisations in military, political and administrative affairs.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, the Taze Township General Strike marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • On Thursday, a combined rally from Salingyi and Yin Mar Bin marched for sanctions on Myanmar’s Oil and Gas Enterprise, the income source of the military junta.
  • On Thursday morning, a rally from Yin Mar Bin North marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Kanbulu Township, there was an anti-junta march in a local village on Thursday.
  • In Monywa Township, the junta army set fire to Htanaung Taw Taung Village on Wednesday. Reportedly, three old people were trapped by the fire and died.
  • Starting at 12:00 am on Wednesday, there were mortar attacks on the junta army stationed in Thitgyingyi Village in Ayadaw Township and Tharzi Prison in Monywa.
  • At about 9:00 pm on Tuesday, 50 mortar rounds were fired into the junta’s North West Military Headquarters. Reportedly, the district office building was damaged and six junta soldiers died.
  • In Ye-U Township, the junta army shot dead six people in Falangone Village on 4 March and arrested 15 young people. Since then, there has been no contact with the arrested youths.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta armed forces raided Thanbo Village and Kyogan Village. As a result, more than 2000 local people had to run away in the rain.
  • In Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region, PDFs and the public conducted an anti-junta movement in a local village on Thursday.
  • In Kawthaung, Kyaw Moe Khine, a local Pyu Saw Htee leader, was shot dead at 9:30 pm on Wednesday.
  • In Madayar Township in Mandalay Region, the junta armed forces set fire to two villages at about 1:00 pm on Thursday.
  • In Yesagyo Township in Magway Region, there was an attack on a vehicle full of junta soldiers near Ma-U Police Station on Wednesday afternoon. Reportedly, eight junta soldiers died.
  • In Ye Township in Mon State, local PDFs attacked a car driven by U Lwin Moe Aye, allegedly a junta informant, near Kyaung Village at about 8:30 am on Wednesday. Reportedly, he died on the spot.
  • At 2:30 pm on Thursday, a convoy of 35 military trucks from Saw Township of Magway Region headed for Mindat in Chin State and fired mortars.
  • Human rights activists called on the United Nations Security Council to transfer Myanmar’s military dictators to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • At a press conference on Thursday, U Aung San Myint, the Chair of the Karenni State Consultative Council, stated that the military junta and their bootlickers have been fomenting racial conflicts based on race and religion.
  • In Panseng of Wa Self-administered Region, there was a meeting of the FPNCC consisting of the forces from the Northern Alliance. Reportedly, it was joined by General Tun Myat Naing, the Chief Military Officer of Arakan Army.
  • On the way out of Bawlake in Karenni State, there was a battle between the junta army and Karenni Combined Force near Yenipauk Bridge at about 5:00 am Thursday. Reportedly, at least 3 junta soldiers died.
  • In Thandaunggyi of Kayin State, a combined force of the KNLA under Karen National Union (KNU) attacked the junta army at 16 Mile on Wednesday. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers.
  • The Freedom Fighter Column from Kawthoolei Army inspected a weapon swindler and released him on Wednesday morning, in coordination with Thai Investigation Department.
  • According to the CNDF, two PDF members were arrested and killed by the junta army while they were travelling on duty in Butalin Township of Sagaing Region.
  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, there was a mine attack on the junta army on Matupi-Paletwa Road on Tuesday afternoon. Reportedly, 10 junta soldiers died.
  • In Puta-O District of Kachin State, Kachin Independence Army (KIA) managed to destroy over 100 acres of poppy plantations near the neighborhood of the junta armed forces.

The Military Council

  • On Wednesday, the second junta leader Soe Win arrived in Karenni State where thousands of junta soldiers have been operating and entering villages. Reportedly, he met with local business people, religious organisations and junta armed forces.
  • The junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that political parties who want to continue operating should re-register by 28 March at the latest.
  • According to the junta Union Election Commission, the Rakhine State National Party, the People’s Pioneering Party and the Mon Unity Party applied for registration on 15 March.
  • In Minhla Township in Bago Region, a junta soldier named Tun Naing raped a mentally-ill woman aged 21, the daughter of the former junta captain Myo Myint.
  • In Bago, the junta administration demanded 30,000 MMK per person from local business people and hostel owners to celebrate the water festival.
  • In Yangon Region, strong fences have been built and CCTV cameras installed around the buildings of government departments under the military junta. a
  • According to the junta municipal department in Yangon, a team dancing competition will be included at the Yangon Mayor’s pandal (stage) during the water festival.

Summary on 17 March

  • The junta leaders have had to go all over the country to advocate due to a lack of security. The second junta leader was in Karenni State where there has been heavy fighting which he kept saying was necessary to restore security in the area.
  • To take part in the election, which is a political escape for the military, some political parties re-registered. They are the ones at the last election who were backed by the junta army or got no votes.
