The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a statement on the 75th Karenni Army Day on Thursday, the Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) called for continuous fighting while taking caution of the junta’s divisions politically and militarily.
  • On the 75th anniversary of the Karenni Army Day, the Ministry of Defence- NUG stated that there would soon be a time of the revolution which could decide the end of the military dictatorship.
  • According to PKS PDF (1004), PDFs attacked and gained control of the junta’s Boma Thandaung Camp in Pyimanar Township of Naypyi Taw, the headquarters of the military junta. Afterwards, there were battles for three days.
  • According to the Military Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence- NUG, the PDFs conducted a guerrilla attack on a junta convoy of 6 military trucks on their way from Bago Region to Kyaikto Township of Mon State. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • In an interview with RFA, Minister of Defence- NUG stated that they had been building a collective force and making important preparations for fighting under one spirit and force to take a further step in military operations.
  • At 1:00 pm Wednesday, there was a meeting between the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration-NUG and the Township People’s Administration from Mandalay Region and Magwe Region.
  • In Kayin State, Kyar-In Seikgyi Township People’s Administration announced on Thursday that they had supported the CDM soldiers and police again.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Chaung-U Township and Myinmu Township, there were some bomb attacks via drone on the junta gates at about 11:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • In Monywa Township, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy carrying copper on the Monywa-ChaungU Road Section at about 4:00 pm Tuesday.
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army killed 4 people from Lengaught Village by slitting their throats at Myaukyamar Bridge on Wednesday morning. They then threw the bodies into the stream.
  • On the way out of Monywa, there was a mine attack on a convoy of 5 trucks carrying prisoners from Monywa Prison for transfer on Tuesday. Reportedly, a CDM doctor Dr. Zaw Htwal Aung and a driver lost their lives while many others were injured.
  • In Wetlet Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army demanding money from the travelers in Ywar Thar Gyi Village at about 2:00 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.
  • In Kalay Township, the junta army has been stationed in Thazi Village. They set fire to houses for two consecutive days.
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, there were bomb attacks via drone and mine attacks on junta soldiers and Pyusawti members at 8:27 am Wednesday. Reportedly, 2 junta members died.
  • In Mahar Aungmye Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army arrested the founder of Golden Gate Private School on Thursday, accusing him of supporting PDFs and the NUG. They then sealed off the school.
  • In Ngazun Township, the junta army set fire to Aung Thukha Kyung Village at about 5:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, over 60 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Paukkaung Township of Bago Region, Zaw Lin Aung, the junta-appointed administer of Inngarkwa Village, was shot dead at 6:30 pm Wednesday while he was playing chinlon.
  • In Kachin State, there was an attack via 107mm grenades on a junta fleet of 9 vessels carrying weapons and rations on their way from Shweku to Bamaw on Wednesday evening.
  • In Demoso Township of Karenni State, the focal person of Rural Land, on behalf of Daily 100-Yen Japan Group, gave food to the displaced people on Thursday.
  • Due to informartion from the US Embassy in Bangladesh, Sonali, a bank owned by the Bangladesh Government, closed off the financial accounts of the MFTB and MICB under Myanmar’s military junta. Reportedly, the accounts contained 1.1 million USD.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

  • On 75th Karenni Army Day, the Chief Military Officer of the Karenni Army/ Karenni Nationalities Defence Force called for no hesitation in the fight against the military dictatorship, keeping in mind that some individuals must be killed whereas some others will die in fighting.
  • In Thatone Township of Mon State, second sergeant Saw I Zat from the Painnedaw junta army camp defected to the District Brigade (1), along with weapons, on 22 July.
  • In Mon State, a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army and PDFs has been making daily inspections on the Yay-Dawei Road.
  • In Kyaikto Township of Mon State, a combined force of the KNLA and PDFs fired mortars at the two stations of the junta army in Moatpalin Village at about 10:00 am Wednesday.
  • In Matupi Township and Hakha Township in Chin State, there was a landslide between Lonelaw Village and Zadan Village on Tuesday, cutting off the local road.

The Military Council

  • In a video message to the International Security Conference in Moscow, Russia, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing stated that some countries have been using the dollar as a weapon in the trade for essential supplies related to food security.
  • The junta National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee informed the EAOs, who signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, to hold more peace talks.
  • The junta Food and Drug Administration warned the public that some clinics and online suppliers had been giving illegally-imported fake COVID-19 vaccines.
  • The traditional medicine department under the the junta Ministry of Health announced that some traditional medicines, sold on Facebook, should not be used as they were not registered or they were not licensed.
  • Despite a variety of oppression and arrests to control the local prices of gold and dollars, a tical of goal reached up to 38 lakh and 10,000 MMK whereas a USD was worth over 3,750MMK.
  • In Oatpho Township of Bago Region, Captain Aung Myo Thu, from the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya 6 in Tain Myote Village, died in an accident while clearing the bullets from guns. Reportedly, the junta army did not let his military position be mentioned in the funeral invitations.
  • In Thegone Township of Bago Region, the junta army arrested two young people at their houses. The junta propaganda channels on Telegram claimed that two PDF members had been shot dead while they were setting mines.

Summary on 18 August

  • In addition to the United States, a neighboring country, Bangladesh, closed off the accounts of the two junta banks with supplying the junta with foreign currency. Consequently, the foreign currency was blocked off, causing the junta hardships.
  • Throughout the country, the military junta has been arresting and inspecting people, accusing them of supporting the PDFs. They have also sealed off people’s property unlawfully.
