The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At 10:00 am Tuesday, the 54 th meeting of the NUG was conducted. The Acting President, Union Prime Minister, Ministers and Deputy Ministers all joined the meeting.
  • The NUG Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Natural Disasters Risks Management announced that they would broadcast a documentary containing true voices of local people from the villages that had been burnt down by the junta armed forces.
  • The NUG Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment will hold a press conference about the End of Dictatorship (EOD) Program.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Mayangone Township in Yangon Region, there was a grenade attack on the newly-built bunker at Thamai Crossroads. According to local residents, no less than two police members were injured.
  • At 5:45 am on Monday, the Yangon Division People’s Brigade blew up the (10) Mile sub-power station supplying electricity to Yangon Airport, where the military planes take off and land and which has been making money for the military junta.
  • On Tuesday, the Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Hpakant Township in Kachin State, local people marched for the KIA, PDF and NUG on Tuesday. They also protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region, junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members in two troops invaded the eastern villages and set fire to them on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, there were battles near those villages and the junta armed forces used the support of two helicopters.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta armed forces set fire to Theindaw Village and Inpak Village. Reportedly, 23 houses were burnt to ashes and two villagers were burnt to death.
  • In Kantbalu Township, three double-decker military junta ships were hit with projectiles. After that, the junta armed forces set fire to villages along the Ayeyarwaddy River bank.
  • In Kani Township, a troop of 80 junta soldiers carrying rations in bullock carts was attacked with mines by a local PDF at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers might have died.
  • On the 433 rd day of protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East, led by LGBT people, marched against the military dictatorship on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHoBiT) 2022, which fell on Tuesday.
  • In Sagaing Township, local PDFs conducted a mine attack on two military trucks between Nonedwin Village and Nyaungbinwun Village on Tuesday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among the junta soldiers.
  • On International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHoBiT) 2022, LGBT Union Mandalay and Youths Union demonstrated.
  • In Myaing Township in Magwe Region, the junta armed forces raided Ywashay Village on 14 and 15 May. Reportedly, they killed three local people and set fire to 65 houses.
  • In Saw Township, two police officers from a local police station deserted and joined the public’s administration team with their weapons.
  • In Pha-Ang in Kayin State, a local revolutionary force conducted an anti-junta demonstration on Tuesday, hanging banners against the military dictatorship at the summit of Mount Kyain.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, the Basic Education Students’ Union and the public took to the streets on Tuesday, raising an anti-junta banner.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Hpapun District under the Karen National Union- KNU Brigade (5), there were 186 battles between the KNLA and the junta armed forces and the Border Guard Force from 1 to 15 May. According to the Mutraw Newsletter, 88 members of the junta armed forces died and 68 others were injured.
  • In Demoso in Karenni State, there was a clash between the junta armed forces and the KNDF in the town market from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died.

The Military Council

  • Australia announced that because they no longer have an ambassador, they will continue diplomatic relations through lower-ranking officials to avoid recognizing the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing.
  • According to the government-owned Myanmar Agricultural Bank, farmers, who fully paid both the interest and loans they received for the rainy seasons in 2020 and 2021, can get loans for the 2022 rainy season, starting from Monday.
  • The junta Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation said that the junta has been carrying out natural disaster preventive measures and management so that there will be enough water for daily use and agriculture in areas where there is less rain.
  • According to the military junta, landing piers are being constructed for cruises on the Bago River that will visit Multi-Ethnic villages in Yangon Region.

Summary on 18 May

  • To show their objection to the military coup in Myanmar, the international community has started to downgrade its diplomatic relations with the junta. Soon many countries may do this.
  • In the areas controlled by ethnic armed organisations, there were many casualties among members of the junta armed forces. The same was true for Sagaing Region where there were heavy battles every day due to guerrilla attacks by local PDFs.
  • The military junta keeps committing war crimes by setting fire to villages and killing local residents after their troops suffer casualties.
