The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a statement on International Migrants’ Day, the NUG Minister of Labour stated that under the rule of the military junta, there was no protection for migrants working abroad and local workers face oppression and are helpless in the face of violations of basic labour and human rights.
  • At 2:00 pm on Saturday, there was a meeting between the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration and District Public Administration Teams.
  • In the area of Brigade (6) in Kayin State, frontline PDF members met with Daw Ei Thinzar Mg, an NUG Deputy Minister.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Ye-U Township in Sagaing Region, there was a battle between the junta army and PDFs near Ywar Maittha Village. Afterward, junta soldiers set fire to a village with more than 700 houses. Reportedly, almost the whole village was burnt down to ashes.
  • On Sunday, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship, holding signs against the junta’s illegitimate election.
  • At a local market in Monywa, the Ayadaw Township General Strike Committee and local people protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday, raising anti-junta banners.
  • In Yinmabin North, a rally of local villages marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • In Kantbalu Township, TBK Guerrilla Force shot mortars and conducted bomb attacks using a drone on the junta army who were burning local villages.
  • On Sunday morning, a rally of the Myaing Township Basic Education General Strike Committee, the Basic Education Students’ Union, the Burmese Young Poets’ Union and local people conducted a march against the military dictatorship.
  • In Usan and Changwon in South Korea, Myanmar people marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • In Kawkareik Township in Kayin State, the junta army shot heavy artillery in Hpagya Village at about 1:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, four houses were damaged.
  • In Ayeyarwady Region, eight political prisoners in Pathein Prison were each sentenced to five years in prison on the morning of 15 December.
  • In Kyimyindine Township in Yangon Region, the junta army arrested four young people in Satsan Ward.
  • In Yangon Region, the junta armed forces sent for Wave Money service providers at the township administration departments and told them to get the personal information of clients. They also threatened that there would be action unless such records could be shown during surprise checks.
  • In Taunggyi in Shan South, the military junta has banned the use of gunpowder and all related items.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • At about 5:45 am on Friday, an alliance of the White Tiger Battalion attacked the junta army Hlaingwa Ka-La-Ya (231) in Kawkareik Township in Kayin State. Reportedly, seven junta soldiers, including their commanding officer, died and nine others were seriously injured.
  • Regarding their invasion of Konetha Village, Human Village and Manlone Village in the Ta’ang Area of Shan North, the military junta issued a statement. In response, the TNLA said that the junta’s statement was far from reality and they just invaded the villages to destroy them. It also said that the junta’s claims to have confiscated weapons were also untrue.

The Military Council

  • The military junta announced that it had just attacked PDFs, not the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), in the battle in Namsam of Shan North, in which the junta army had been face to face with a great loss.
  • The junta Chief Minister of Sagaing Region said that the people working at hotels and guesthouses have to carefully match their guests’ identities with the details on their National Registration Card (NRC).
  • At the Myanmar Convention Center (MCC) on Mindhama Road in Yangon Region, there was a trade fair for products from 29 industrial zones. Reportedly, the junta Minister of Information attended.

Summary on 19 December

  • The junta army conducted a surprise air strike in the TNLA area. They suffered great losses there as the ethnic armed forces counter-attacked. Following the incident, the military junta announced that they it just attacked PDFs, not the TNLA. The junta also falsely claimed that it had confiscated the weapons from the PDFs. Their lie was easily spottted as the TNLA had already published news and videos about the fighting.
  • In upcountry regions, the junta armed forces have been invading the area and burning local villages. It shows they fear that the central areas of the country will be like the liberated areas controlled by ethnic armed organisations.
