Spring Revolution Daily News for 20 August 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • The NUG expressed their disappointment with the statement by the United Nations Special Envoy to Myanmar. 
  • On Friday morning, there was a meeting via video conferencing between Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and People’s Embrace. 
  • On Thursday, the Public Administration Department under Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG announced that they had dismissed all the junta township and district administrators excluding those sending information to the NUG. 
  • Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment- NUG announced that the open tenders of the military junta for the sales of state-owned property were illegitimate and thus, the public were not to buy them and the property would be publicized from the buyers. 
  • The End of Dictatorship-EOD announced that they got started with their third project named Spring Yangon Investment starting from 18 August. 
  • The NUG announced that the sale of Spring Lottery had resumed on Friday. They also issued the list of international agents for sale. 
  • According to Dibeyin Township Public Administration, the junta army fired ammunition into Tandawgone Village on Friday afternoon. Consequently, local people had to run away. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Shwepyitha Township of Yangon Region, a hundred household leader was shot dead at Nilar Market in Ward (15) at about 7:00 pm Friday. 
  • There was a puppet in military uniform like Min Aung Hlaing at Aung Thaidy traffic lights on Insein Road at about 7:00 am Friday. Reportedly, under the puppet were two bombs and they exploded. 
  • Somewhere in Yangon, youth and students from Basic Education Students’ Union led a guerrilla protest against the military dictatorship on Friday afternoon. 
  • On Thursday evening, anti-junta youth expressed their desire against the military junta as well as the United Nations which just keeps releasing statements of concern and objection related to Myanmar’s affairs. 
  • In Dagon Seikkam Township, local PDF conducted a grenade attack on the junta army stationing in the electricity department in Ward (91) at about 8:30 pm Thursday. 
  • As a 526-day protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Sagaing Region, Kalay people protested against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • On Friday, Monywa The Boys announced that they would attack the junta armed forces anywhere anytime and thus, the public were to stay away from junta soldiers. 
  • On Friday, an alliance of PDFs in Salingyi Township announced that they would not allow fuel vehicles to pass the area temporarily starting from 25 August. 
  • In Chaung-U Township, the junta army was attacked with mines on Monywa-Mandalay Road. Reportedly, 11 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, 3 junta soldiers died in a battle at Koetaungbo Village on Thursday night. Reportedly, two civilian women lost lives due to the mortars shot by the junta army. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta armed forces set fire to Kapaing Village and Thigone Village on Thursday night. 
  • On Friday, Monywa Township PDF introduced their product of Shot Gun to the public. 
  • According to CDM Captain Zinyaw, local PDF managed to remove nearly 100 anit-personnel mines near Wethmay Village of Latbadaung Taung Copper Mine. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army conducted air strikes on Yinbaungdine Village. Reportedly, 18 dead bodies including those of two rape victims were found up until Thursday. 
  • On Friday, Katha Township published a video in which they had attacked the convoy of junta vessels heading towards Bamaw of Kachin State. 
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a rally of Lonekhine Group marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Myaing Township and Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, local PDFs conducted attacks at the junta armed forces at the same time on Thursday. Reportedly, no less than 7 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Pakkoku, a combined force of PDFs attacked the junta army who were demanding money at Industrial Zone Hall at about 4:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died. 
  • In the south of Gantgaw Township, there was a guerrilla attack on the junta army on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died and a policeman was caught alive. 
  • In Pakkoku, a CDM staff member of the land department was arrested by the military junta on Thursday. 
  • On Friday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement. 
  • On Thursday, Yay Guerrilla Force released a warning of 3 points for cars and trucks on the road from Mahle Mountain in Yay Township to the border of Thanphyu Zayat Township. 
  • In Taunggyi Township of Shan South, Joe Phyu Guerrilla Force conducted a bomb attack to warn the junta electricity department in Shwenyaung. 
  • U Aung Moe Zaw, Chair of Democratic Party for a New Society, said that it was necessary for all forces to harmonize in political, military and diplomatic movements for the success of Spring Revolution. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Katha Township on the border of Sagaing Region and Kachin State, a combined force of ABSDF and PDFs attacked the convoy of 6 junta vessels going up the Ayeyarwaddy River at 9:30 am Thursday. Reportedly, two ships were hit and damaged. 
  • In Kayin State, a combined force of KNU/KNLA and PDF attacked the junta army on Myawaddy-Kawkarait road section on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers including a captain died whereas a PDF lost a member. 
  • In Mone Township under control of Karen National Union-KNU, the junta army killed a man aged 50 from Sarbutaung Village and another one aged 45 from Meme Village on Wednesday morning. 
  • On Friday, Kachin Independence Organization-KIO organized the KIO Women’s Day in Laiza, their headquarters. 
  • CDF Mindat called on donors from the local and international community to take part in the challenge of 2,000 mines for attacks and local defence in Chin State. 

The Military Council 

  • According to AP, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they would arrange a meeting between the United Nations Special Envoy to Myanmar and State Consellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi at an appropriate time. 
  • On Thursday, there was a meeting between the junta peace team and the delegation led by the UN Special Envoy in Nay Pyi Taw. 
  • The delegation led by the UN Special Envoy to Myanmar left the country on Thursday evening. 
  • On Thursday, secretary of the military junta warned permanent secretaries and departmental staff for no more leakage of confidential documents. He also threatened to take action against the whole department if such thing happened again. 
  • On Thursday, the junta Chief of Justice told state and regional courts to carry out timely and accurate investigations for crimes without delay. 
  • Regarding the stability of financial systems, innovation and risks, there was an online discussion among vice chairs of Central Banks in South East Asia, responsible personnel and the junta vice chair of the Central Bank of Myanmar-CBM on Thursday morning. 
  • For the construction of torpedo factory and the upgradation of the junta navy unit near Rakhinechaung Village in Dala Township of Yangon Region, Sky One Construction, owned by the son of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, won the project. 
  • On Friday, the military junta announced that 5 regional chief military officers had been transferred. 
  • On Thursday night, the military junta announced that they had arrested 5 people including a doctor involved in an attack at Moekaung Yadanar Child Hospital in Yankin Township of Yangon Region. 
  • Starting from Friday morning, Myawaddy border trade was reopened after the junta’s temporary closure due to military tension. 

Summary on 19 August 

  • The meeting between the UN Special Envoy and the military junta just ended up in vain. It seemed like the military junta refused the requests made by the United Nations. They just said that they would arrange a meeting with State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi at an appropriate time. 
  • In Kayin State, there were battles between the junta army and KNU/KNLA + PDF. Reportedly, the military junta faced a great loss there. Due to military tension, Myawaddy border trade had been suspended the previous day. It was reopened on Friday.
