The Military Council

  • The junta Ministry of Information announced that legal action would be taken against sponsoring and doing activities for Radio NUG.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Information, licences were granted to 3 magazines and one journal among the applicants for publishing, 3 permits of general publishing and 3 applicants for news agency from May to July.
  • The India government donated medicines and other medical supplies to Myanmar for the second time for prevention, treatment and control of COVID-19.
  • According to the junta Prison Department, almost all prisoners had received the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • The military junta announced that the period of public holiday would be extended to handle COVID-19 more effectively. Basic education schools would also be closed temporarily.
  • In Yatsaut Township, the PNA kidnapped two residents of Namtohn village and demanded a ransom at about 2:00 am Saturday.
  • According to a source in the banking sector, the military junta instructed a suspension of 40 KBZ Pay accounts to prohibit the public from buying the Spring Lottery of the NUG.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Dr. Tun Aung Shwe, Myanmar’s Representative to Australia - NUG, met with Senator Penny Wong, opposition leader of Australian Upper Parliament and Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister. They had a discussion on the matters such as Credentials of the NUG, which would likely be discussed at 76th General Assembly, humanitarian aid which could be provided to Myanmar and the decision of Australian Parliament regarding ASEAN Partner Trade Agreement, which the Australian government would have to sign.
  • After Radio NUG was broadcast twice on Friday, it was suspended. The NUG announced that the radio programme would be coming back soon.
  • As for Radio NUG on Saturday, it would be broadcast only on Podcast. According to the announcement, it would also go live on Facebook soon.
  • According to the 5 Million Raffle Ticket Challenge, a global campaign organized by CRPH, OFP and the Ministry of Defense - NUG to fulfill the needs of PDFs, the sale of tickets began on 12th August. Until Saturday afternoon, more than 350,000 tickets have been sold.
  • In an interview with RFA, U Yi Mon, Minister of Defense - NUG, said that EAOs would lead the fight against the military junta in two war zones.

Revolution Activities

  • According to a member of local guerrilla force, 36 soldiers from Magwe air force had run away with their weapons and they were in a safe place.
  • According to local residents of Gantgaw Township, an old man aged 70 in Hnamka village, who had been receiving medical treatment as he had been beaten and kicked by the junta armed forces, passed away on Saturday morning.
  • In Taungdwingyi, 100-household leader Zaw Latt was shot dead in the administration office of Shwe Oh Ward (1) at about 8:00 am Saturday.
  • In Pakkoku Township, the students and the public conducted a protest against the military dictatorship at dawn on Saturday.
  • Myaung PDF called on other local armed groups to take action while they had to move quickly as hundreds of junta soldiers blocked off the area.
  • In Yezagyo, there were bomb explosions at the township electricity office at about 12:00 pm and at Pakangyi police station at about 1:00 pm respectively. According to local residents, there might be casualties.
  • DGWCF - Delta Guerrilla Warfare Collective Forces had been established with guerrilla forces of revolution from various townships of Ayeyarwady Region.
  • KNDF announced that they warmly welcome the soldiers who joined the public. In addition to special guarantee for safety, they would provide those soldiers with financial reward by the public. Therefore, they called for their cooperation.
  • On Friday night, Mandalay Monks’ Union recited Parittas for the public as usual and protested against the military dictatorship.
  • On Saturday afternoon, Mandalay Monks’ Union carried out an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • On Saturday, a rally of Mandalay Monks’ Union marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Madaya Township, the junta armed forces raided Tangataung village the previous night and killed two villagers. They then arrested CDM policeman U Win Naing Soe, U Yan Naung and former administrator U Aung San Tun.
  • On Saturday morning, a rally of Mandalay variety forces marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • In Mandalay with military order, Chan/Zi rally marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday morning and they gained public’s support and cooperation.
  • In Monywa, a rally of students protested against the military dictatorship on Saturday, “Only NUG is the public’s government”.
  • As a 164-day protest, a rally comprising various villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
  • On Saturday, a rally of Kalay people with strong determination expressed their desire against the military dictatorship.
  • In Kawlin Township, five soldiers, who had been in charge of security at Htawara Mining Company owned by the junta Mandalay Regional Chief Minister U Mg Ko, left the area and took away their weapons on Thursday night.
  • Despite an internet shutdown in Lonekhine group of Kachin State, there was a humanless strike against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • On Thursday, the military junta provided weapons to 50 pro-military people from Pha-Kant to conduct violence in the area.
  • In Shwe Pyi Tha Township of Yangon Region, the junta armed forces inspected the overnight guest list at Tawwin Padauk hostel at about 3:00 pm Thursday and killed Ko Lin Lin Tun aged 19 by shooting. They then arrested Ma Hnin Ei Khine.
  • In Shwe Pyi Tha Township, 30 junta soldiers raided a hostel on Thursday. In the incident, Ko Lin Lin Tun was shot dead on the spot. Besides that, two more young people died in the investigation the previous night.
  • In Latha Township, there were gunshots in front of Latha police station after the occupants of a car had thrown a black packet into the bunker which was made of sand bags.
  • In Hlaing Thaya Township, there was a bomb explosion in front of the police station on 5 street at about 7:30 pm Friday.
  • In Hlaing Township, 3 bombs exploded near Oatgyin Military yarn and garment factory in Ward (16) on Friday.
  • According to People’s Soldiers, there was one female soldier among the soldiers who joined the CDM.
  • In Longlone Township, local people made a night strike against the military dictatorship on Friday, chanting “Only NUG is our government. Drive away the military watchdog”.
  • In Longlone Township, Dawei District General Strike Committee led a protest against the military dictatorship on Friday night.
  • Amidst arrests, Longlone rally, in cooperation with Dawei District General Strike Committee and anti-junta youth, expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • At the regional bridge check-point in Dawei, there was a fighting for 15 minutes between local PDFs and the junta armed forces at about 8:30 pm Friday.
  • In Pansai Township of Shan North, the junta armed forces opened fire wildly, injuring a civilian who had been in quarantine at Pansai church.
  • In Karenni Township, the junta armed forces used some local residents, who were arrested with their hands being tied behind their back, as human shields and marched along Fruso-Dimawso-Loikaw road on Saturday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Kayin State, there were 30 battles between KNU/KNLA and the junta armed forces from 17th to 20th August. According to Thule newsletter, 20 junta soldiers died.
  • In Pansai Township of Shan North, there was a heavy fighting between MNDAA and the junta armed forces, starting from 7:00 am Saturday.
  • In Kyain Seikkyi Township of Kayin State, junta soldiers left their army based in Kyait village on Saturday morning.

Summary on 21st August

  • The military junta has been attempting to counter the NUG who have gained full public support. They also threatened the people who support the NUG. More than 40 KBZ Pay accounts were blocked with the accusation of selling the Spring lottery. Like the junta armed forces, the so-called junta people’s army kidnapped people, demanded ransom and committed robbery.
  • As for the NUG, they have gained public support fully. When they made a collection of funds for the revolution, the public made willing contributions. The Minister of Defense said that EAOs would lead the fight against the military junta in two different warzones. People are waiting for the day when the NUG will start.
  • In Kayin, Shan North and Kachin, there were battles between the junta armed forces and EAOs. In Sagaing, Kayar and Chin, there were clashes with local PDFs. There might be more fighting in the days to come.
  • Amidst arrests and tight security measures in Mandalay, various rallies marched against the military dictatorship every day without fail. In Magwe and Yangon, guerrilla revolution became powerful. As for other states and regions, they had very few public protests.
