The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG announced that Under the People’s Police Force, an E Police Station had been established.
  • Derek Chollet, Counsellor of the US Foreign Department, stated that the United States had been contacting ethnic organizations in addition to the NUG and they had been carrying out activities for the provision of assistance in accordance with Burma Act contained under the NDAA-(National Defense Authorization Act) signed by US President Biden.
  • At 9:00 am Friday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration and Local People’s Administrative Teams from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. Reportedly, they discussed to fight the military junta in various sectors including political and military ones.
  • According to the End of Dictatorship, the sale would begin on Saturday for the apartments of Brave Spring Condo-NUG.

Revolution Activities

  • In Mandalay, a rally of Pyigyi Dagun protested against the military junta on Friday, holding signs - ‘Let’s object to the election in order not to fall under the army boots again’.
  • In Sagaing Region, a rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin shared brochures against the junta’s election, issued by General Strike Coordination Body-GSCB.
  • In Kantbalu Township, the junta army set fire to Inma Village starting from 10:55 am Saturday.
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship.
  • Holding signs against the junta’s fake election, Taze General Strike conducted a march on Saturday.
  • In Khin-U Township, a combined rally of local public’s administration, local defence forces, the education family and local people expressed their objection to the junta’s superficial election on Saturday. They chanted slogans in support of federal democracy and the NUG.
  • In Myaung Township, a combined rally of Monywa General Strike and local youth marched for an end to the military dictatorship.
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, local PDFs conducted an attack on the junta army near Thayetgwa Village.
  • In Pauk Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army in the school in Ohndaw Village. According to a focal person of the Pauk Revolution Front, a junta soldier died.
  • In Daegu of South Korea, there was a protest against Myanmar’s military dictatorship at the Korea-Myanmar Peace Center.
  • In an exclusive interview with the VOA, the Consultant of the US Foreign Department claimed that the United States would double their assistance for Myanmar people if Russia gave more support to the military junta.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Phaya Thonesu of Kayin State, the junta army conducted bombing using 3 fighter jets on the house belonging to the strategic supervisor of the DKBA (Democratic Karen Benevolent Army) (West) No. (2) at about 1:00 am Saturday.
  • In Bawlake Township of Karenni State, a combination of Karenni Forces attacked and took control of the junta army camp on Mesalaung Hill. According to the KNDF, 5 junta soldiers died and many weapons were confiscated.
  • In the area under Karen National Union-KNU Brigade (1) and Taninthayi Region, the KNU and public’s administrative teams announced that they would not allow the junta’s fake election and they would take serious action against it.
  • In Kachin State, Kachin Independence Organization/Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA) organized a wedding reception for 6 couples of KIA soldiers with disabilities.

The Military Council

  • According to the junta Road Transport Administration Department, all the motor vehicles throughout the country must change their number plates with the ones containing engraved letters for additional information by the end of 31 March.
  • The military junta announced that the team led by Madam Budsakorn Srisawasdi, the wife of Commander in Chief of Thai Royal Army, had visited famous pagodas and other places in Thandwe of Rakhine State on Friday.
  • In Monywa Township of Sagaing Region, PDFs arrested the second supervisor of the junta Municipal Office.
  • On Saturday, the junta newspapers stated that 9 offices of the junta Ministry of Immigration and Population had been damaged due to attacks by PDFs over the period of two-year military coup.
  • In the meeting with Chief Officer of Thai Royal Army, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they would try to keep their effort to maintain the relations and cooperation between the armies of the two countries.
  • According to the junta propaganda media, many sectors were discussed in the meeting between Thai Army and the military junta; friendly relations between the two armies, peace and stability of local people on the border areas, natural disaster preventive measures and anti-drug trafficking matters.

Summary on 21 January

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, an association with arrested drug dealer Tun Min Latt, included anti-drug trafficking in the discussion with Commander in Chief of Thai Royal Army. Assumingly, it might just be superficial.
  • Reportedly, the US will double their assistance for Myanmar people if Russia gave more support to the military junta. They would also effectively provide aid in accordance with Burma Act contained in the NDAA. As a matter of fact, it is a tonic for the general public as well as for the revolution forces.
