The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In an interview with DVB, the Acting President of the NUG claimed that the organizational strength of People’s Defence Forces- PDFs and ethnic forces became equivalent to that of the junta army and that the combined forces were likely to get better soon. 
  • At 3:30 pm Thursday, the CRPH/NUG Support Group Australia organized an online public meeting of the Asia Pacific Region. 
  • Reportedly, present on the occasion were Chair of the CRPH, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment and other responsible personnel of the NUG. 
  • On Thursday, there was a meeting of the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration. There, Chair of the Committee and Union Prime Minister stated that despite many needs, the NUG must do their best as the revolution government to reduce them. 
  • Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Natural Disaster Risks Management-NUG announced on Wednesday that they had supported over 340 million MMK for humanitarian assistance in November. 
  • In the battle against a combined force of KNU+PDF near Kawnwet Village in Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, many junta soldiers, including a captain, died. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The US Secretary of State stated that the United States welcomed the decision of the UN Security Council on Myanmar. 
  • In Kamayut Township of Yangon Region, there was a grenade attack on the statistics office in Ward (1) at about 1:00 pm Friday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties in the incident. 
  • Somewhere in Yangon, a rally of Mayangone Township Basic Education Students Union and Burma Youth Revolutionary Force expressed their objection to the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Sanchaung Township, there was gunfire in Wailuwun North Ward on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 2 people, including a chief officer of a foreign ship engineer, died and another one was injured. 
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In downtown Monywa, there was a dawn strike against the military dictatorship on Friday, stamping on the photo of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. 
  • On Friday, a combined rally of Salingyi North marched for the end of the military dictatorship. 
  • In Monywa Township, there was an attack against 35 members of the junta army and Pyusawti in Tawpu Village at about 10:00 am Thursday. 
  • In Minkin Township, there was an attack using mines against the junta army and Pyusawti near Pwint Lyet Crossroads at 8:30 am Thursday. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Dibeyin Township, a large number of local people have had to run away as the junta armed forces have been invading the area. Reportedly, 3 children were hit with mortar shrapnel. 
  • In Mawlight Township, the junta army shot dead a child aged 7 on Thursday morning. 
  • In Magwe Region, the junta army based in Kyauktu fired mortars into town on Thursday night. Reportedly, a little girl aged 6 lost her life and 9 houses were damaged. 
  • In Myaing Township, there was a clash against the junta army on secret patrol on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 3 PDF members lost their lives and 2 others were injured. 
  • In Myaing Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta armed forces on Thursday. 
  • In Yesagyo Township, there was a battle near Tanbinchaung Village on Wednesday afternoon. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Pauk Township, a combined force of PDFs provided medical check-ups and treatment to the IDPs. 
  • According to MRGF on Thursday, a fully-armed policeman was financially rewarded with 10 million MMK for joining the public.

  • In Kyaiklatt of Ayeyarwaddy Region, 5 members of the NLD received long-term imprisonment at the junta court on Wednesday. 
  • In Longlone of Taninthayi Region, the junta army raided town at about 8:00 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, they also arrested 6 people for no apparent reason. 
  • In Indagaw Township of Bago Region, Thet Myint Oo, an advocate of the USDP and junta informer, was shot in Tonegyi Village at 2:00 pm Thursday. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Kokang Area of Shan State, the MNDAA conducted a clearance operation in the area on Thursday. Reportedly, they confiscated the weapons of the junta army. 
  • In Monekoe District of Shan State, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and the MNDAA on Wednesday. Reportedly, a member of the MNDAA lost their life. 
  • In Phapun District under Karen National Union-KNU Brigade (5), there was an ambush on the junta army camp (Tawmu Paleme) in Luthaw Township on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and another one was injured. 
  • On Karen New Year on Thursday, the Peace Process Steering Committee-PPSC stated that they would join hands for a federal democratic union. 
  • The top personnel of Ta’ang National Liberation Army met with people in Kontha Village where they had a great loss in the junta’s air strike. Reportedly, they arranged for the rehabilitation of the victims. 
  • In Ywathit Township in Karenni State, the KA and the KNDF carried out an ambush on members of Karenni State People’s Administration at 2:00 pm on 17 December. Reportedly, a total of 11 people, including 8 soldiers, died. 
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, the KNU/ KNDO announced that there would be legal action against those who had killed 3 members of Pakkoku Support Team and confiscated the weapons. 

The Military Council 

  • In Yangon, there were tight security measures as the junta leader and his wife were visiting. 
  • In the meeting of UMFCCI on Thursday, the junta Union Minister of Trade and Commerce stated that the people were using social media and technology to cause ripples in the business world. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce, farm products worth over 2.4 billion USD were exported in the current fiscal year. 
  • In the meeting with the junta ministers in Bangkok, it was joined only by member states of the Mekong. Reportedly, other important personnel did not attend. 
  • On Thursday, the junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that there should be no contact with the CRPH, NUG and PDFs. 
  • In Yangon, there was a meeting among the junta Minister of Foreign Affairs, the junta Minister of International Cooperation and the members of Myanmar’s Strategy and International Study. 
  • The junta Ministry of Health announced that there had been 12 people on average who had operations for their bent waist at Yangon Orthopedic hospital on a yearly basis. 
  • According to the junta Myanmar’s Investment Commission, the foreign investment worth nearly 1.5 billion USD came into the country from April to the end of November in the current year. 
  • According to KBC, they submitted a letter to the junta leader for a meeting with their former Chair who had been arrested. 
  • The military junta claimed that PDFs conducted a remote mine attack on a school bus of Grade 11 students in Mabain Township in Kachin State on Wednesday morning, killing one person and injuring three others. 
  • The junta Rakhine State Administration announced that starting from 9 January, there would be population checks in the area for the voter list in the junta’s election. 
  • On Friday, actress Thinzar Wint Kyaw was sentenced to 5 years in prison at the junta court inside Insein Prison. 

Summary on 23 December 

  • The meeting between the junta Ministers and some ASEAN Ministers did not include those from the leading countries of the association. It was just like a casual conversation at a restaurant, bringing no result. 
  • Against the military dictatorship, there has been armed revolution all over the country. Together with great support of the public, revolution forces have become powerful enough to counter-attack the military junta anytime anywhere.
