The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Ministry of Defence- NUG announced that about 100 junta soldiers including officers died in battles on the border between Naungcho Township of Shan State and Pyin Oo Lwin Township of Mandalay Region from 5 to 22 April.
  • The spokesperson of the Union Prime Minister Office- NUG said that the international community should take into consideration the desire of the public without fail if they would like to help resolve the crisis in Myanmar.
  • In the United Nations meeting on 20 April, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN claimed that Myanmar has faced degradation in all sectors including employment and education after the military coup.
  • At 10:00 am on Sunday, there was a meeting between the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration- NUG and Township People’s Administration from Taninthayi Region, Ayeyarwady Region and Bago Region.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces set fire to 6 local villages from 20 to 24 April. Reportedly, over 400 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Htigyaint Township, the junta army conducted aerial attacks near Marathein Village, Wegyi Village and Tawma Village at about 11:00 am on Monday. Their forces on ground set fire to the public’s houses as well.
  • On Monday, the Taze Township General Strike marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe led a protest against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • On Monday, a rally from Yinmabin North marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Kantbalu Township, no less than 25 junta soldiers died and a PDF member was injured in the battle at Lay Dwin Cin Village near Pazigyi Village on 22 April.
  • In Insein Township of Yangon Region, there was an explosion at the Crime Investigation Department on Sunday night. Moreover, there was an attack with 4 remote mines on the junta armed forces during their inspection around the area.
  • In Insein Township, there were bomb explosions near the CID and Ywama Police Station on Sunday night. The same happened in North Okkalapa, Thingangyun and North Dagon.
  • According to the leader of PDF Khayan, 6 members were arrested by the junta army during their stay in Yangon via the overnight guest list check on 22 April.
  • In Yangon, anti-junta youth conducted a fan strike against the power outage on Sunday.
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, the junta army set fire to Nyaungdwin West Village at about 7:00 am Monday. Reportedly, 32 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Pauk Township, the junta army and Pyusawti militia set fire to Zeedaw Village and Thabyay Aye Village on Monday afternoon.
  • On Sunday, local PDFs conducted an attack with 40mm grenades on the junta police station in Yesagyo.
  • In Madayar Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army killed Ko Pho Htaung from Kin Village on Sunday afternoon and hung a ‘Thwe Thaught’ badge on the body.
  • In Kyankhine Township of Ayeyarwady Region, there was an anti-junta protest on Sunday afternoon.
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army arrested more than 20 men in Weyit Village on Monday morning.
  • In Longlone Township, Zaw Lin, a former soldier and junta informant, was shot dead at about 6:00 pm on 21 April.
  • In Myeik, U Saw Jack was one of the leaders who set up the Central Pandal in town. At about 4:30 pm Sunday, his second wife and a friend died due to a bomb explosion in their car.
  • In Thanphyu Zayat Township of Mon State, there was a guerrilla attack on 3 military cars between Kalaipadaw Village and Konemyint Tharyar Village on Sunday evening. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died.
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, the KSP comprising CDM police and the Rural Land had a meeting with the public over the matters of the rule of law, anti-drugs and human rights.
  • In Bangkok of Thailand, the UG Family made a collection for the fund of the Spring Revolution.
  • In Gimhae of South Korea, all the tickets were sold out for the movie ‘The Rays of Hope’ by Director Ko Pauk.
  • The AFRY Company based in Switzerland announced that they would leave the hydro-power projects in Myanmar as the military junta has violated human rights.
  • A total of 546 local and international civil society organizations sent an open letter to the UN Security Council for the implementation of their decision (2669), which contains points such as the one for the military junta to immediately stop violent activities on civilians.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Hpa-Ang Township of Kayin State, a combined force of Karen National Union Brigade (1) and Brigade (5) attacked the junta army camp of Mesata at about 4:30 am Monday. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died and weapons were confiscated.
  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, the junta army fired heavy artillery at local villages in Section (3) on the evening of 22 April. Reportedly, schools and houses were damaged.
  • In Mindat Township, the junta army has been deliberately shooting shells into villages where civilians live. Therefore, the local CDF warned the public to take special precautions against such dangers.

The Military Council

  • On Sunday evening, Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary General of the UN, arrived at Nay Pyi Taw. The military junta announced that they took the time to invite and arrange for his visit.
  • On 13 April, there was a bomb explosion in western Hlaing Thayar Township. In the incident, military officer Zin Maung Lwin died when bomb shrapnel hit him in the head. Reportedly, the military junta gve orders not to spread the news of his death.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Health, it is necessary to protect against COVID-19 XBB.1.16 as infections have been on the rise since early April.
  • On Sunday night, the junta Ministry of Health announced that 45 people tested COVID-19 positive.
  • According to the committee under Ministry of Trade and Commerce, the reference price for edible oil will be 4680 MMK per viss in the Yangon wholesale market from 24 April to 1 May.

Summary on 25 April

  • Having thought that they could rule the country easily, the military took power by force. However, it turned out to be the opposite in reality, even after more than two years. So, they are trying ways to find an escape.
  • In Shan and Karenni, the military junta has suffered great losses including high-ranking officers in local battles against ethnic revolutionary forces.
