The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In Taungoo District of Bago Region, there has been fighting between local PDF (3501) and the junta army starting from 15 December. Reportedly, no less than 20 junta soldiers including officers died, many others were injured and their weapons were confiscated. 
  • At 9:00 am Friday, there was a meeting (21/2022) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Extended Area Public Administration Teams. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The Singapore Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Singapore welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of the Resolution on Myanmar on 21 December. 
  • On Friday, US President Joe Biden signed the National Defence Authorization Act-NDAA, which supports democracy in Myanmar. 
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, there was an attack at the junta army in the south east of Phaunggwel Village. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died and 7 others were injured. 
  • In Myaing Township, the junta army set fire to Kyauksauk Group South Village on Friday. Reportedly, they also burnt an old man aged 85 to death. 
  • In Myaing Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army. Reportedly, a junta soldier died and 4 others were injured. 
  • In Wetlet Township, Basic Education Students’ Union conducted a meeting and a protest against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • In Chaung-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army made fire ammunitions via helicopters on Amyint Old Town on Saturday.
  • In Monywa Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army stationed in Tawpu Village. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Yinmabin North, a rally of local villages marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • On Sagaing-Monywa Road, the junta army shot at a passenger car. Reportedly, a civilian lost their life. 
  • In Taze Township, the junta armed forces set fire to 6 local villages for 4 consecutive days. Reportedly, over 600 houses were burnt to ashes. 
  • In Nyaung-U Township of Mandalay Region, PDFs attacked the electricity manager office of Ngathayaut Sub-Township. Reportedly, they confiscated a gun. 
  • In Ngatogyi Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army stationed in Gwaygone Village. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers, including a captain, died. 
  • In Pyigyi Dagun Township, there was a grenade attack on the administrator of Ga Ward. There was also a bomb explosion while the junta army was inspecting the scene. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Madayar Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on a junta army ship traveling upstream along Ayeyarwaddy River on Friday. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In the area under control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army, there were investigations and judiciary sentences in nearly 140 cases in 2022, mostly drug and sexual assault cases. 
  • In Kayin State, there was a battle at No. (3) Check Point on Kawkarait-Myawaddy Old Road. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing told business people to carry out their activities for the interest of the country without political will. 
  • The spokesperson of the Peace Process Steering Team stated that there would be a meeting of the military junta with the 7 armed forces adhering to a ceasefire to amend the 2008 Constitution. 
  • The military junta rejected the UN Security Council adoption by vote of the Resolution on Myanmar in New York, United States. 
  • They claimed that the situation in Myanmar was just home affairs, and did not have an impact on international peace and security. 
  • The junta leader said that it was necessary to prevent the division among the citizens with the abuse of religions. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce, garments, shoes and machines worth of over 472 million USD were exported in the 7 months of the current fiscal year. 

Summary on 24 December 

  • The military junta responded that they could not follow the Resolution of the United Nations Security Council. They might have to face the consequences sooner or later. 
  • The US President signed the NDAA, which would support Myanmar’s democracy. Therefore, the law would come into force and bring benefits to the Spring Revolution.
