The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a Christmas statement the NUG claimed that true peace and security as well as a life full of human dignity will happen only when the devil-like rulers can be driven away.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Ye Township in Mon State, there was a mine attack on a junta army camp and soldiers on motorbikes. Reportedly, about eight junta soldiers died.
  • In Kawkareik Township in Kayin State, Seven Bridge was damaged by the junta firing at it during fighting on Friday. Reportedly, the military tension continued to escalate.
  • In Sagaing Region, a rally of the Monywa-Amyint Road Community dressed in Christmas clothes protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • In Chaung-U Township, there was a bomb attack using a drone on the junta army invading Amyint Village. Reportedly, a junta captain died and another soldier was seriously injured.
  • On Sunday, a combined rally of villagers from Yinmabin North marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • On Sunday, a rally of the Chindwin River Western Bank marched for the end of the military dictatorship and held up anti-junta signs.
  • In Sataung Township, the junta armed forces destroyed 707 houses in five villages. Reportedly, they also killed three local people including an old woman aged 80.
  • In Wandwin Township in Mandalay Region, Pyay Aye, an administrator of Nyaungto Village Tract, and his son Sai Myint Aung were shot dead. In addition, junta troop on the way to inspect the dead bodies were then attacked with mines.
  • In Seoul and Usan in South Korea, Daegu Sayardaw led a combined rally of Myanmar people and Korean people marching against Myanmar’s military dictatorship.
  • In Palaw Township in Tanintharyi Region, Thira Soe, an officer from Kawthaung Prison, was arrested by PDF members near Kade Village on Saturday.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • According to the seven ethnic armed organisations which have signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), their meeting with the military junta in Nay Pyi Taw was cancelled.
  • In Fruso Township in Karenni State, it has been a year since the junta army arrested and burnt over 40 people (including children and women) to death on 24 December 2021.
  • In Kayin State, the Golden Eagle Battalion conducted drone bomb attacks on two armoured trucks on their way to Kawkareik Township. Reportedly, one of the vehicles was burnt and damaged.

The Military Council

  • In Thapaung Township in Ayeyarwady Region, a doctor and seven young people were each sentenced to 15 years in prison at the junta court in Pathein Prison.
  • According to the junta administration of Bago Region, it has asked private businesses to put in tenders to implement the Smart City Project.
  • The junta Information announced that there was a launching ceremony for military vessels that were transferred to the Coast Guard.
  • The military junta announced that about 200,000 tons of corn had been exported, mainly to Vietnam, in November 2022.
  • The junta propaganda media falsely claimed that PDFs had killed a teacher and her husband in Didoatkhin Village in Natmauk Township in Magwe Region.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed that building and possessing an outstanding defence force was the best way to sustain sovereignty.
  • Min Aung Hlaing said that steel for construction could be produced locally. He added that there were already raw materials and any ethnic business people would be empowered if they would like to manufacture steel.
  • The junta propaganda announced that PDFs had raided departments and offices in Salingyi Township and Ye-U Township in Sagaing Region, and had forcibly taken away vehicles and office furniture.
  • According to the junta Livestock department, there will be a cattle show and competition in Yangon on 31 December.
  • Ma Nu Nu Aung, a member of the 88 Generation Peace and Open Society, Ma Khat Khat Aung and her son Ko Myat Thu were each sentenced to 15 years in prison at the junta court inside Kyaikmayaw Prison.

Summary on 26 December

  • The meeting between the military junta and seven EAOs who signed up to the NCA was cancelled again. Reportedly, it happened because the military junta unilaterally tried to set the time and venue. In other words, good things could never be expected from the dictators who fail to keep their word.
  • In upcountry areas, local villages have been set on fire on a daily basis. No matter what, the revolution still has been in great momentum there. In Kayin, Karenni, Bago East, Mon and Chin, there have been battles between the junta armed forces and ethnic armed forces.
