Spring Revolution Daily News for 28 August 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Union Minister of Defence-NUG awarded a certificate of honour to the organizers of ‘Dancing with Ladies’ for their support to PDFs in Sagaing Region. 
  • With the fan used by public’s leader Daw Aung San Su Kyi, there was a fund-raising event ‘Mum’s Present, Mum’s Fan’. Reportedly, nearly 350,000 USD was earned and transferred to the NUG for displaced people. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Myeik Township of Taninthayi Region, a military car ran over a philanthropist named Ko Tun Tun and killed him. 
  • In Myeik Township, the junta army shot at 3 young men on a motorbike on the way back from work on the night of 24 August. According to local residents, 2 youths died. 
  • In Dawei Township, the junta army fired mortars into Wagone Village on Friday. They also took away public belongings. 
  • On Saturday, a national rally of anti-junta monks led a movement against the military dictatorship. 
  • In the north of Maungdaw Township in Rakhine State, an old woman died in Mingyi Village due to a mortar shot by the junta army at about 9:00 am Saturday. 
  • Political prisoners called for a boycott against the junta army products and requested no delivery of such products to them. 
  • In Kunchangone Township of Yangon Region, Special Operation Force-SOF conducted an attack with mines at a military convoy on the way to Latkoatgone Village at about 8:30 am Saturday. Reportedly, there were many casualties. 
  • In North Okkalapa Township, Urban Guerrillas carried out a remote bomb attack on the junta administration office in Hta Ward at 9:09 pm Friday. According to Union Myanmar Civil Defense – UMCD, 4 junta members died. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, there were ongoing battles in Yelegyun Area between the junta armed forces stationed in Min Village and local PDFs. 
  • In Wakema Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, the military junta instructed local mosques to take responsibility for food for 51 Rohingya people arrested by the junta army. 
  • The junta army arrested a woman for her comment on a social media page against the military dictatorship. 
  • During a trip, the wife of military officer Naing Bo Bo, who had driven a military truck into young protesters in Kyimyindine Township in 2021, was caught by PDF. However, she was released. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Mobye on the border of Shan and Kayah, local PDF snipers attacked a patrol by the junta army Regiment 422. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers were injured. 
  • In Kawthoolei Administration Area of Mutraw District under Karen National Union Brigade 5, the junta army and Border Guard Force-BGF fired mortars into local villages. Reportedly, people’s houses were damaged and a woman lost her life. 
  • In Maungdaw Township of Rakhine State, there was a fighting between the junta army and Arakan Army-AA near Kamaungseik strategic point from 9:00 am to 10:00 am Saturday. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta leader criticized that the literature published by the administration of the NLD civilian government was poisonous. 
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that some books and so-called literary talks after 2011 and especially after 2015 had led to a highly-divided society against democracy. 
  • The junta labour department informed departments and factories about gazette holidays in the calendar for 2023 including a long holiday of 9 days during the water festival. 
  • In a discussion on irrigation and social-economic development of farmers in Nay Pyi Taw, Min Aung Hlaing said that water could not be separated from agriculture and no crops would grow without any water. 
  • The junta leader said that if farmers could grow 3 crops a year (rice together with sunflower, sesame or beans) in over 6 million acres through systematic irrigation, their socio-economic life would improve a lot. 
  • The junta deputy minister of social welfare said that national action plan (2022-23) would be implemented to protect children from violence in armed conflicts. 
  • After the junta Central Bank of Myanmar requested a list containing the amount of USD purchased by fuel oil importers, the prices of fuel oil increased. 
  • In Thandwe Township of Rakhine State, the military junta arrested a total of 53 Rohingya people on 19 and 26 August respectively. 

Summary on 27 August 

  • At the time with loss in the revolution and hatred of the public, the military junta got started with their threats against anti-junta people not to criticize them or support the revolution. Recently, they have charged commenters on social media posts made by the press and revolutionists. Therefore, the general public are to lock their accounts. 
  • Without any specialized knowledge, the junta leader just talks whatever he wants. With such mismanagement, the economy is facing a downturn, gradually leading Myanmar to become the poorest country in the world.
