The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to organizers of Dancing with Ladies, they would carry out their third project for Chin and Magwe from 27 August to 27 September. Through it, they hope to fund raise 15,000 lakh MMK from the public and donate the money via the NUG Ministry of Defence.
  • Union Minister U Aung Myo Min said that they will abolish Myanmar’s 1982 Citizenship Law that contains provisions that discriminate against the Rohingya minority.

Revolutionary Activities

  • Five US senators sent a letter to the US government led by President Biden calling for sanctions on Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) which provides the military junta with finances to commit war crimes and genocide as well as to prohibit the activities of Russia from destroying Myanmar,
  • In Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region, three junta army officers were caught alive as prisoners of war and a lot of weapons were confiscated in the battle on the morning of 23 August.
  • In Kyunghla Township, the junta army set fire to Konesi Village, west of Thafanseit Dam on Friday morning. Reportedly, 59 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Kyunghla, the dead bodies of an Islamic religious teacher and his son, who had been arrested and killed by the junta army, were found near Thityar Myaing Market and in front of the train station on Friday morning.
  • In Kani,on Sunday, a Spring Revolution rally was held to protest against the military dictatorship. Participants held signs saying: ‘Save Kani Township’.
  • On the 535th day of protest, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • On Saturday, a rally of Western Chindwin marched against the military dictatorship, holding signs saying: ‘The more pressure, the more expansion in the land of Sagaing’.
  • In Dala Township in Yangon Region, there were bomb explosions in front of police station and local court at about 9:00 am Sunday.
  • At about 2:00 am Sunday, the sounds of bomb explosion were heard somewhere in north east Dagon.
  • In Gantgaw Township in Magwe Region, the junta armed forces set fire to Mauk Village on Sunday morning. Reportedly, they also arrested and killed two local people.
  • On 26 August, military officer Aung Zaw Oo, the supervisor of No. (5) Garment Factory under the junta Ministry of Industry, and his wife Daw Yu Yu Sein were shot. Reportedly, the man was seriously injured and his wife died.
  • In South Korea, a combined rally of Korean and Myanmar people expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship in Myanmar.
  • In Chanmya in Thazi Township, Mandalay Region, Nay Ni Aung, allegedly a junta informer, was murdered on 2 August and his dead body was discarded at the side of the highway.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, Rosy Women’s Union led an anti-junta movement on Sunday morning.
  • In Yebyu Township, two men from Pugawzun Village, allegedly junta informers, were shot dead on Saturday night.
  • The People Independence Army has been recruiting new members and registration can be made via their social media page.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • On Sunday, the delegation of the Restoration Council of Shan State/ Shan State Army- RCSS/SSA led by their Chair Yawd Serk left for Nay Pyi Taw to discuss peace with the junta team led by Min Aung Hlaing.
  • In Loikaw Zone under Karenni National Defence Force- KNDF Brigade (2), a junta soldier pretending to be a civilian was caught by Karenni combined forces.

The Military Council

  • The UMFCCI and fuel oil importers advised the military junta to change from a US dollars exchange rate fixed by the junta Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) to a floating exchange rate based on market valuations. In response, the junta said that it would continue to control the exchange rate as it did not have many US dollars.
  • At the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre in Naypyitaw, the junta peace team met with the working group of political parties.
  • In Thabaung Township in Ayeyarwaddy Region, the military junta has been setting up a people’s army consisting of departmental staff and at least 10 people in each ward.
  • In his trip to Russia, the second junta leader Soe Win met with the Russian Deputy Minister of Defence. Reportedly, they had friendly discussions about mutual respect, trust and support between the two armies.

Summary on 29 August

  • On 23 August, a large number of junta soldiers died and a lot of weapons were confiscated in the battle in Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region. From the incident, it can be seen that the upcountry revolution which got started with traditional Tumi guns has been in great momentum with strong networks.
  • In the tenure of the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing, the value of Myanmar Kyat has decreased uncontrollably and so has the national economy. Due to revolutionary activities all over the country, the military junta has faced hardships in administration.
  • In areas without local PDFs, the junta armed forces have been burning villages and killing civilians. Their seniors have allowed them to commit such war crimes and genocide.
