The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Tuesday, there was an event on the completion of a teachers’ refresher course for teachers who will serve at public schools under the NUG in Myaing Township of Magwe Region.
  • According to the US Embassy in Yangon, the Assistant Foreign Minister of the US had a meeting with the NUG Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and said that they would proceed with actions against the military junta.
  • The representative of the NUG Japan Office said that those with expired passport could consult with them if they had any difficulty in extending their visas or travelling abroad.
  • The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) would conduct a campaign for official representation of U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar’s Representative at the United Nations General Assembly.
  • The Acting President of the NUG called on all members of the NUG and revolutionary forces not to lose sight of their common destination.
  • According to the NUG Ministry of Defence, there were 5,500 cases of violence by the junta armed forces against the public in June. Reportedly, 2,908 civilians died, 1,911 others got injured and 10,955 others were arrested.

Revolutionary Activities

  • On Tuesday, the Kalay General Strike marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Yinmabin Township in Sagaing Region, a combined rally from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship on their 509th day of protest.
  • In Sagaing, there were bomb attacks on the administration department and municipal office near the township police office in Poedan Ward. Reportedly, five members of the junta army died and two junta vehicles were burnt.

  • In Muse, Shan State, there was a bomb explosion near a local police station and exchanges of gunfire at about 9:00 p.m. on Monday. Reportedly, a member of the so-called People’s Army died.
  • In Yesagyo Township, Magwe Region, a PDF attacked junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members stationed in Min Village at about 10:00 p.m. on Monday.
  • In Tilin, there was a bomb explosion near an agricultural bank and construction department at about 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Reportedly, two members of the junta police and the bank manager were injured.
  • On 28 July, the Yaw Defence Force raided a Pornpimol Kanchanalak Patoelone gas-power plant In the town of Kyaw and arrested 24 non-CDM staff. They then released 23 staff members on bail and they have been investigating MOGE engineer U Min Aung while giving him medical treatment.  
  • In Oatpho Township in Bago Region, a convoy of three military trucks was attacked with mines by local PDFs near Kantni Village on Monday afternoon. Reportedly, three junta soldiers, including an officer, died.
  • In Mingaladone Township in Yangon Region, Win Naing Tun and Hay Mar Tun, the junta administrator of Paungku Nyana Ward and his wife, were shot dead at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
  • In Hmawbi Township, there was a bomb explosion at the military training school in front of the junta air force on Monday night. Reportedly, there might be casualties as ambulances arrived there.
  • On Sunday, the junta army arrested 27 Chin ethnic youths who had been staying in Yangon to go abroad for work.
  • In Yay Township in Mon State, a young man was shot dead near Lamai Police Station. Reportedly, he was a member of social workers’ group in town.

  • In the report by Amnesty International on Monday, the military junta had been carrying out inhumane activities such as the death penalty, brutal treatment and sexual harassment to fight their opponnents.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Pekone Township in southern Shan State and in Karenni State, there were 48 battles between the junta army and Karenni combined forces in the last week of July. According to the Karenni National Defence Force (KNDF), 88 junta soldiers died and 21 guns were confiscated. As for local defence forces, they lost a member.
  • KNDF Brigade (7) has been conducting a 30-day challenge rom 21 July to 21 August to raise money to buy M79 and 40mm weapons.
  • On Monday, the winners of the Tumi Lottery were announced, it was a fund-raising activity to support the revolution  by Chin ethnic people.
  • In Kachin State, a combined force of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and local PDF attacked the Dule Party People’s Army based in Sadone on Tuesday morning.

The Military Council

  • Soe Naing, an officer at Dawei Police Station who had been arrested by the junta armed forces on 18 July, was released.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they had been supplying 442 MWs of electrical power to the national grid from three power projects and they had also been implementing potential power projects.
  • The junta Chief Minister of Bago Region said that security and rule of law were essential for education, health, socio-economic and local development.
  • The junta Minister Htay Aung said that Myanmar and Thailand had been cooperating in many sectors such as trade, investment and tourism. Reportedly, Thailand stood second in terms of investment for hotel and tourism.

Summary on 3 August

  • The United States and Australia started relationships with the NUG treating it as the government. The NUG has been getting better at diplomacy and many international governments have tried to build relations with them. In contrast, the military junta no longer has a place even in ASEAN Community due to its inhumane crimes.
  • The revolution has had great momentum in upcountry areas like Sagaing and Magwe. The public has been contributing to help arm defence forces in those areas.
  • In Kayin State, heavy battles resumed on Tuesday. As usual, the junta army conducted air strikes in the area and also suffered great losses.
