The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Chaung-U Township PDF informed that those who had to leave home due to the junta army were not to take the risk to return to their villages without the permission of respective the local public administration and local defence forces.
  • In an interview with DVB, Acting President of the NUG stated that there were difficulties in the revolution and there were also times when it was very difficult to row the boat against the storm. He also expressed his wish for Myanmar people to get free from the hardships that they had to suffer currently.
  • In the statement to Mon Youth Day, Naing Thu Wunna, Minister of Labour-NUG, called for contribution to the national liberation and a new federal nation through the coordination of modern education by young people in the revolution period.

Revolution Activities

  • In Thabaitgyin Township of Mandalay Region, there was a mine attack on a convoy of military trucks. Reportedly, about 20 junta soldiers died.
  • In Thabaitgyin Township, the junta army set fire to Zinchaung Village.
  • In Nyaung-U Township, PDFs attacked the electricity manager’s office of Ngathayauk Sub-Township. In the incident, a junta policeman handed over a gun. Reportedly, he was killed in a subsequent junta interrogation.
  • In Myingyan Township, a combined force of local PDFs attacked the camp of Pyusawti in Sone Village on Tuesday. Reportedly, 3 Pyusawti members died and another one was injured.
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of villages from Yinmabin and Salingyi marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • According to Special Forces-11 PDF, the project got started for 300 mines to attack the junta army troops and trucks going to and fro to the Northwest Regional Military Headquarters in Monywa. Reportedly, the public can buy raffle tickets for that.
  • On Thursday, Taze Township General Strike led a march against the military dictatorship.
  • Holding signs ‘2023 is the end for the military dog’, a rally of Yinmabin North marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • The People’s Defence Force South Monywa conducted an attack at close range on the gate of the junta livestock farm on the roadside of Monywa and Chaung-U. Reportedly, there might have been casualties.
  • In Mawlamyein of Mon State, a car driven by police officer Win Tun Naing crashed on the roadside. According to local social groups, he died on the spot in the incident.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, a junta army sergeant and two Pyusawti members were shot dead.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), over 70 members of the junta army and the junta people’s army died in local battles in Shan North on the border of Myanmar and China over two months.

The Military Council

  • On 18 December, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing signed their own budget. Reportedly, over 440 billion MMK was allocated for the junta Ministry of Defence in 2022-23 fiscal year.
  • Reportedly, 10 anti-junta young people from Yangon and a student from Mandalay were sentenced to 3 to 15 years in prison, along with hard labour.
  • According to the junta News of Myanmar, Rev Dr Hkalam Sam Son, Secretary General and former Chair of Kachin Baptist Convention-KBC, would be charged under the law against blacklisted organizations and the anti-terrorism law.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta Pyusawti conducted a bomb explosion on a wedding reception in Waity Village. Reportedly, 6 people were injured in the incident.
  • On Thursday, the 7 political activists, accused of robbing at Global Treasure Bank, were each sentenced to 10 years in prison, along with hard labour, at the junta Western District Court.
  • In Dawei of Taninthayi Region, U Aung Naing Oo, secretary of the local funeral service group, and his wife were arrested by the junta army at their house on Tuesday night.
  • On Thursday, Aung Lwin (Kanbauk Thar), an article writer of Taninthayi Journal, was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Education, the university entrance exam for 2022-23 academic year would be held on 8 March.
  • In Ayeyarwaddy Region, the junta army has been recruiting with a vacancy announcement under the pretence for the construction engineer office.
  • According to the MP sources of National League for Democracy-NLD, Chair of Ayeyarwaddy Regional Parliament and members of the local government were released.
  • The second junta leader Soe Win claimed that it was necessary to advocate and ask for repayment in accordance with the law as the amount of agricultural loan was too high in 14 districts.

Summary on 29 December

  • The military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing arrested anti-junta people and youth. They then sentenced them to long-term imprisonment with prejudice.
  • In Sagaing Region and Magwe Region, the revolution has been in great momentum. On the other hand, the junta armed forces have been burning local villages. As for Mandalay, they have regained the momentum of the revolution. The same has been true for guerrilla forces in Yangon.
