The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At 2:00 pm Monday, there was a meeting via video conferencing between the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and Enlightened Burma - Social Science Institute. Reportedly, they discussed cooperation for educational activities to promote awareness on human rights and political knowledge.
  • The Ministry of Defence- NUG has called for the public’s contribution to the PRF on a monthly basis to support the PDF members in the war with great momentum.
  • At 10:00 am Tuesday, there was a meeting between the People’s Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG and the People’s Security Forces from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region.
  • The Acting President of the NUG stated that only when the revolutionary forces can perform strategically in all faces of the war, they will be able to create a federal democratic union with full access to democracy and human rights for the public.
  • In a press conference on foreign policies on Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs- NUG claimed that it is not time to talk for the meeting and negotiation with the military junta.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs- NUG stated that ASEAN has been making an effort for the meeting between the military junta and the revolutionary forces in terms of Myanmar’s affairs and such a one-sided push is like giving time to the military junta and deteriorating their oppression.
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Ambassador to the United Nations, stated that it is necessary for the UN Security Council to make a resolution containing action against the junta army to save the Myanmar people.

Revolutionary Activities

  • From 27 to 29 August, the Urban Guerrillas conducted bomb attacks on 6 junta places in Yangon Region.
  • According to the Thai National Human Rights Commission, they are concerned about the affairs of Myanmar refugees who have been staying in Mae Hong Son province of Thailand since June due to local battles.
  • Human Rights Watch confirmed that over a million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh have a slim chance of safely returning to Myanmar.
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, there was a battle near Sithu Ground. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died and a gun was confiscated.
  • On Wednesday morning, the junta army invaded the southern part of Kantbalu Township. Reportedly, about 8,000 people from 9 villages had to run away amidst the wind and rain.
  • GON MARN a Local PDF, based in Butalin Township, called for public contributions to their campaign, which would give them a revolver and other weapons.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

  • In Muse Township and Kutkhine Township of Northern Shan State, there were battles between the junta army and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army on Tuesday. The junta soldiers used heavy artillery and air strikes.
  • In Sawti Township and Muu Township under the Karen National Union Brigade (3), the junta army shot mortars at local villages on purpose. Consequently, 2 people lost their lives, 4 others were injured and 6 houses were damaged.
  • In Thanglang of Chin State, there was heavy fighting in town. Reportedly, over 30 junta soldiers died whereas 15 CDF members lost their lives.
  • Using 120mm grenades confiscated from the junta army, the Karenni Army Drone Force attacked the junta army invading the eastern side of the Thanlwin River.

The Military Council

  • In Kyaikto Township of Mon State, the junta army sealed off the house of Ko Yan Shin Aung, a member of the local revolutionary force, in Taungthusu Ward.
  • According to the junta Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok, MOU workers with two years remaining in their passports will be able to extend their work permits in Myawaddy and Kawthaung.
  • In Kutkhine Township of Northern Shan State, a mortar shot by the junta army fell and exploded in the local market of Namfatkar Village on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, 2 civilians were injured.
  • In Moekaung, the junta army arrested a man, accusing him of being related to the Kachin Independence Army. Reportedly, he died due to ill-treatment in interrogation a few hours later.
  • According to the junta Internal Revenue Department under the Ministry of Planning and Finance, the sale of Aungbale Lottery for August was nearly 5,300 million MMK and it slightly decreased compared to the sale of the previous month.
  • According to the junta Minister of Health, the military junta allocated 4.5 million USD for the purchase of medicines and related items against Tuberculosis in the 2023-24 fiscal year.
  • On Tuesday, there was a meeting between the junta peace team and the 5 signatories of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
  • The junta Ministry of Labor instructed overseas employment agencies to resolve the issues of injuries or death of workers they send abroad, within 30 days of the incident.
  • According to the junta Myanmar Rice Federation, it will sell rice for 2,500MMK per eight tin cups via more shops in Hlaingthaya 20 Market and Tarmway Market in Yangon Region.

Summary on 31 August

  • Whenever the army takes the power of the country by force, only a handful of them become rich and at the same time, they create a situation in which they act like the public’s benefactors by selling basic food items like rice and oil.
  • With the pledge to uproot the military dictatorship by 2023, the NUG has prepared for offensive attacks all over the country.
