The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Friday, the Acting President instructed the NUG Council on Public’s Security and Defence to set up a martial court and a supreme court.
  • At 10:30 am Saturday, the NUG Financial Commission conducted their 6/2022 meeting. Reportedly, proposed budgets were reviewed and approved there.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG announced a good financial reward for CDM soldiers who would join the public together with junta weapons that can shoot down fighter jets and helicopters.
  • Minister of Education-NUG said that they would join hands with partner organizations and regional countries so that Myanmar children can get the same rights as others from all over the world.
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, there was a fun fair with prize giving ceremony at a village school. At that school, there are 70 teachers and over 600 students from primary to high school level.
  • Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations called on the countries selling weapons to the military junta to stop their sales in accordance with the calls by the UN General Assembly and Human Rights Council.

Revolution Activities

  • In Thabaitgyin Township of Mandalay Region, a local guerrilla force is raising funds to produce mortars through the sale of a pair of earrings with a lots system.
  • In Myinmu Township of Sagaing Region, a convoy of 14 military trucks was attacked with mines by local PDFs at about 1:00 pm Saturday. Reportedly, there may have been many casualties among junta soldiers.
  • In Taze Township, Zin Thu Aung, a member of Kantooma Police Station, joined the local PDF together with his gun, some bullets and other military items.
  • In Minkin Township, the junta army’s helicopters fired on local villages without any provocation.
  • In Dibeyin Township, the junta army began to set fire to Kainkan Village on Friday noon. Consequently, local people had to run away.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of villagers marched against the military dictatorship.
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Monywa, Township Basic Education Students’ Union hung an anti-junta banner on Bogyoke Road on Saturday.
  • On Saturday, the Myanmar community in Melbourne in Australia organized an event in memory of the 8888 Uprising.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a combined rally of Lonekhine Group marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Moenyin, a rally of youth and students placed a banner for the revolution prior to the 34th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising.
  • In a press conference on Saturday, the Foreign Minister of Cambodia stated that as long as the military junta in Myanmar failed to implement the ASEAN 5-Point Consensus, they would not be able to join any ASEAN meetings.
  • In Nattalin Township of Bago Region, U Kyaw Win, allegedly an informer for the junta in Pyinmakaung Village, was stabbed to death at about 8:00 pm Friday.
  • In Magwe Region, a military convoy was attacked with mines twice on Seikphyu-Saw Road. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • On Friday, Karen National Liberation Army-KNLA Brigade (1) announced that they would not allow any other administration in Thatone District under their control.
  • In Karenni State, Karenni National Defence Force-KNDF shot mortars at the junta army. On Saturday, they released a video in which indicated that many junta soldiers ran away with casualties.

The Military Council

  • The military junta expressed their objection to the statement by the ASEAN with regard to Myanmar. They also called on the association not to come into contact with the NUG or PDF.
  • On Friday, the junta Central Bank announced that they had changed the referenced price of the foreign currency exchange rate from 1850 MMK to 2100 MMK per USD.
  • According to the military junta, applicants for a tourist visa must follow the existing laws in Myanmar and they must not interfere with internal affairs.
  • The military junta announced that U Htin Kyaw, secretary of the anti-corruption commission, had been allowed to resign due to his poor health condition.
  • The junta propaganda leader General Zaw Min Tun said that there would be a meeting of the Russia-Myanmar military technology cooperation commission in Russia at the end of August and it would be joined by a Myanmar delegation.
  • In Insein Township of Yangon Region, the junta army arrested U Hla Phay, ward and village secretary of the NLD, his wife, his son and his daughter-in-law by force on Thursday. Reportedly, they also took away valuables worth 700 lakh MMK.

Summary on 6 August

  • The military junta changed the foreign currency exchange rate to 2100 MMK. No matter what, there is still a gap between their fixed price and the market one. So, it will make no difference.
  • The military junta protested against the statement made by the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. They also called for no interference in internal affairs. Besides breaking their agreement for the implementation of the ASEAN 5-Point Consensus, they were rude to other members. Consequently, the Cambodia-ASEAN Chair stated that the military junta in Myanmar would not be allowed to attend ASEAN meetings as long as they failed to carry out the agreement.
