The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and the NUG released a joint statement that they vow to sharply reject any political setting which would derail the standards of establishing a new age and a new system, and will continue to fight for those aims.
  • On Sunday, the NUCC and the NUG jointly stated that the goal of the Spring Revolution was not the change of rulers who would sustain the dictatorship with just superficial changes.

Revolutionary Activities

  • The United States warned that they started to take action against Myanma Foreign Trade Bank (MFTB) and Myanma Investment and Commercial Bank (MICB) under the military junta on 5 August.
  • Xanana Gusmão, the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, called on the ASEAN to seek solutions to help resolve the human rights violations in Myanmar.
  • Between Kathar Township in the upper part of Sagaing Region and Shweku in Kachin State on the Ayeyarwaddy River, there have been junta vessels. As the junta soldiers have been indiscriminately opening fire, local people have had to run away.
  • Some displaced people from Yange Village went home to get food and clothes. Reportedly, they were beaten and arrested by the junta army.
  • In Taninthayi Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta armed forces shot heavy artillery. Consequently, 3 people were injured and no less than 8 houses were damaged within three days.
  • In Longlone Township, the IDP Management Team of local PDFs provided food and medicine worth 148 lakh MMK to displaced people in July.
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • In Salingyi Township, the junta soldiers from Nyaungbingyi Police Station opened fire in Tandaw Village. Reportedly, two civilians lost their lives and another one was injured.
  • In Salingyi Township, Chinese Wanbao Company, in cooperation with over 300 soldiers and police, have been putting up fences around the former Wet Hmay Village.
  • In Lashio of Northern Shan State, there was a bomb explosion at Lashio Sunny Hotel at about 11:00 am Sunday.
  • In Kyaukme, unknown gunmen attacked the junta administration office in Ward (1) with grenades. Reportedly, 2 people died and more than 10 others were injured.
  • In Dike-Oo Prison or Kyaiksagaw Prison in Bago Region, the junta staff have beaten 8 political prisoners. They also kept them in solitary confinement from 25 July to 6 August, banning the delivery of prison parcels to them for a month.
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, the revolutionary forces have been surrounding Thayetkwa Village of Pyusawti members for five days. Reportedly, they have warned Pyusawti members to up their arms.
  • On Saturday, there was a protest in commemoration of the 35th 8888 Movement in front of the British Parliament and the Prime Minister’s Home in London.
  • In New York in the United States, the Myanmar community conducted an event prior to the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Movement on Saturday evening.
  • In Tokyo of Japan, Revolution Tokyo of Myanmar conducted an umbrella strike and cardboard box movement at crowded places to commemorate the 8888 Movement.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

  • In Lechar Township of Southern Shan State, there was heavy fighting between the junta armed forces and Shan State Progressive Party/ Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) on Sunday morning.
  • On Sunday, the Chin National Council (Mindat) was set up to exercise the highest level of power in the area via the combination of local and international revolutionary forces.
  • The KNU released information about the human rights violations of the junta army in Duplaya District of the Kawthoolei Administrative Area under the Karen National Union Brigade (6) in July.
  • In Duplaya District under the KNU Brigade (6), there were 66 battles in July. Reportedly, 95 junta soldiers died.
  • The fund from the sale of Tumi Lottery Batch (15) was sent to the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) to support the revolution in Chin State.

The Military Council

  • The military junta changed the sentence of the seven Dagon University students carrying death penalty to lifelong imprisonment.
  • According to the sources from Chin State Government, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing might dismiss the junta Chief Minister of Chin State.
  • The ASEAN Online Sale Day will be conducted from 8 to 22 August. Myanmar business people were invited to take part.
  • According to the junta’s Taninthayi Regional Government, they have been arranging to build a local factory which can produce 20 tons of edible oil per day to fulfill the oil needs of the country.
  • Switzerland placed sanctions on 6 individuals including some junta ministers and No. (2) Mining Enterprise.

Summary on 7 August

  • In the compound of the Maravijaya Buddha Image donated by Min Aung Hlaing, the junta engineers erected 720 stupas. The public criticized that they were disorganized unlike the ones made by Myanmar architects in Kuthodaw Pagoda under the rule of King Mindone. Subsequently, the junta propaganda team edited the photos and lied that the stupas were organized.
  • Unable to rule the country via the coup, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing has been wildly dismissing the junta people below his position.
