Taze PDF claims killing of 15 Myanmar junta soldiers in Sagaing

According to a Taze PDF member, a three-day battle between Military Council soldiers and the local resistance forces in Taze Township, Sagaing region resulted in the deaths of at least 15 soldiers.

A three-day battle between 113th infantry battalion of 99th Brigade in Meiktila, which launched an offensive with about 200 troops, and the local resistance forces took place from 15 to 17 August.

Two major clashes took place.

The resistance used landmines to attack junta troops at the entrance of Kha Paung Kyain village, three miles south of Taze Township, at 8:00 am on 16 August and at the entrance of Inn Dai village, two miles west of Taze Township. At least 10 Military Council troops were shot by PDF snipers.

There was fighting near Kan Pouk village, Taze Township, starting at 9:00 am on 17 August and at least five Military Council troops were killed due to the PDF snipers, according to Taze PDF member.

On the evening of 17 August, junta troops set fire nine houses in Kan Pouk village, he added.

"The local resistance forces jointly fought. Fifteen junta troops were killed because they were shot by snipers. There may be more deaths than that," said a Taze PDF member.

The attack was jointly carried out by the 1st and 3rd Companies of the 7th Battalion from 2nd Brigade, Phoenix Defense Force and the 6th Battalion, 8th Battalion, Taze Tiger, Special Attacking Force (upper Myanmar), Dragon Warrior and Taze PDF groups. A PDF fighter suffered a non-critical injury.

After these clashes, the Military Council troops were deployed on the side of the road near the Ywar Thit village, one mile west of Taze in the afternoon of 18 August and they seemed to head to Chaung U village, according to a report of the local defense forces.
