Three anti-junta fighters killed in attack on Thantlang Township army camp

Three anti-junta fighters were killed and two junta soldiers were captured when Chin defence forces attacked the Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 269 junta army camp in Thantlang Township, Chin State, on 14 August.

"We successfully seized control of the camp. However, due to the presence of jet fighters and resulting casualties on our side, we were forced to retreat”, said Salai Htet Ni, a spokesperson for the Chin National Army (CNA), one of the defence forces involved in the attack.

The other defence forces involved in the attack were Chin Land Defence Force (CDF) - ZoPhei and CDF - Thantlang.

Unfortunately, three defence force fighters were killed in the attack. They were: Salai Henry Takyon Bi, aged 19 and Salai Lai Hnin Htan, aged 22, both from CDF - ZoPhei, and an unnamed fighter from CDF - Thantlang. Several other defence force fighters were also injured in the attack.

Two junta soldiers were captured in the attack and six junta army guns were also seized.

Salai Lai Hnin Htan said that the two captured junta soldiers will be held in accordance with military law.

Following the attack, the junta launched an airstrike on Kwarpho Hamlet located about five miles from Thantlang Township, where the attacked junta camp was located. Four houses and Kwarpho Baptist Church were destroyed in the attack, but fortunately, there were no casualties.

At the time of the airstrike, Kwarpho Hamlet was not an active combat zone.

According to the CNA, the junta is currently increasing the number of soldiers in Chin State and establishing an administrative framework. There has also been a rise in the number of arrests being made in Chin State.
