A People’s defence force (PDF) security patrol clashed with members of the junta-aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia and killed three of them, in Sagaing Region’s Chaung U Township on 12 November.

The fighting happened at about 11:30 a.m. in Kan Gyi Kone Village.

A local resident said: "The patrolling PDFs and the Pyu Saw Htee members unexpectedly met at the corner by the Kan Gyi Kone outpost and began fighting. I heard that three Pyu Saw Htee members were killed.”

According to the Chaung U Local PDF, one of the defence forces involved in the fighting, three Pyu Saw Htee members were killed in an exchange of fire, but all the defence force fighters managed to escape unharmed.

The defence forces involved in the fighting were Chaung U Local PDF, Chaung U Township's People Security Force, No (12) Battalion of Monywa District, and the Chaung U Revolution Army (CRA).

Kan Gyi Kone Village is controlled by the junta and known as a Pyu Saw Htee village because there are many Pyu Saw Htee members living there. The junta army has trained them and given them weapons and instructions to attack local PDFs.

Defence forces often patrol the area to try to keep civilians safe from the Pyu Saw Htee.

There is frequent fighting between Pyu Saw Htee members and local defence forces in and around Kan Gyi Kone Village.
