Two cowherds blown up by landmine in Chin State’s Tedim

One cowherd was killed and another injured when they stepped on a landmine near to Laitui Village in Chin State’s Tedim Township on 2 May.

Zim Htang Lian, age 68 and Sum Khan Lian, age 31, two villagers from Laitui Village, were on the way  to look after their cows when they stepped on the landmine.

Zim Htang Lian was killed on the spot. Sum Khan Lain was severely injured and is now seeking medical treatment in India’s Mizoram State, according to a Laitui villager.

They said: “One person died after stepping on a landmine. Another was critically injured and he is seeking medical treatment in one of Mizoram State's hospitals.''

In an announcement about the incident Peoples Defence Force (PDF) Zooland said it would work tirelessly to get justice for the victims, in accordance with Zomi traditions.

Mizzima has not yet confirmed which group planted the mine near Laitui village. There are both Military Council and PDF forces active in the area.
