The United Nations Human Rights Council has called on the Myanmar authorities to immediately commence the voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya Muslim refugees stuck in camps for internally displaced people in Bangladesh.

The council adopted the resolution without a vote this week on 7 July, expressing grave concern over continuing reports of serious human rights violations in Myanmar, particularly against the Rohingya and other ethnic minorities in the country.

The council urged Myanmar to cooperate fully with the UN and to grant full, unrestricted and unmonitored access to all UN mandate holders and human rights mechanisms.

More than 700,000 Rohingya were forced to flee their homes in Myanmar's Rakhine State due to heavy Myanmar military actions or clearance operations in August 2017 following attacks by a militant Rohingya group, ARSA, on Myanmar border posts.

Close of 1 million Rohingya and remain in squalid camps in Bangladesh.
