USDP member assassinated in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region

A member of the military-aligned Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) was shot dead in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region at 11:30 a.m. on 15 July.

A witness said: “The victim’s name was Myo Aung and he worked under the Military Council as an electricity bill collector. He collected electricity bill money in Yebaw village. After paying the village’s electricity bill at Kyaukse Electric Power Corporation (EPC), he was shot and killed by unknown gunmen.”

According to sources in the Mandalay Police Force community, 47-year-old Myo Aung, who lived in Yebaw Village, in Kyaukse Township, was shot dead on the Kyaukse Industrial Zone Road near Patta Village in Kyaukse Township on 15 July at 11:30 am.

Myo Aung was shot by two unknown gunmen who had followed him on a motorcycle after he had collected money for electricity bills from villagers in Yebaw Village and delivered it to the Kyaukse Electric Power Corporation (EPC).

According to witnesses, Myo Aung died at the scene of the shooting after being shot twice in the chest and once in his left arm, neck and abdomen.

As of the time of reporting, no organisation had claimed responsibility for the killing.

Between 3 June and 16 July 2023, five USDP members who worked for junta administrations were shot in Mandalay Region. Of those, four died.
