Woman injured by Myanmar junta drone bomb

A woman was injured when Myanmar junta soldiers launched a drone attack on Kyaungneint Village in Tanatharyi Region’s Palaw Township on 5 June.

According to locals the drone attack at around 7:30 a.m. on 5 June was launched from the junta Infantry Battalion 285 base in Palaw Township, Myeik District.

A Kyaungneint villager said: “The Military Junta launched a drone attack before bombarding the area with artillery shells, injuring one local woman.”

The victim was named as Khin San Whin from Kyaungneint Village. She is currently being treated at a local hospital.

“There is absolutely no fighting around us. The Military Council dropped the bombs for no reason”, said a member of Myeik District People’s Defence Force (PDF).

Following the coup there was fighting between the junta and defence forces in the Palaw Township villages of Kyaungneint, Mawmi, and Gyintgar where the junta suffered heavy losses.

Junta troops have frequently retaliated to attacks in the area by launching drone strikes against nearby villages, according to local residents.
