Woman killed in Mandalay City robbery

Robbers struck twice in central Mandalay and killed a woman at around noon on 11 July.

The first robbery was at a house where there was a diamond polishing business on 85 (A) Street between 31st and 32nd Street in Chanayethazan Township at around noon on 11 July.

Shortly after a woman was robbed and killed and a car was stolen from a house near the corner of Manawhari Street and 50th Street in Chanmyathazi Township.

'In Chanayethazan Township, people at the house where the robbery took place called the police station, then Junta soldiers and police arrived and inspected the area. I heard that three robbers were arrested but I am not sure. Later there was another heist in Chanmyathazi Township and a young woman was killed in the incident', said a local source.

'She arrived at the house after having withdrawn 400 lakh Kyats from the bank. The robbers shot her and took the money. They also took a car from the house and I heard that other belongings were also taken', the source added.

He said that after being shot the woman was still alive and taken to the Mandalay People's Hospital, but she died from her injuries on the way to hospital.

According to local Mandalay news agencies the woman's body was to be cremated on 13 July.
