A young man was shot and killed when junta troops opened fire indiscriminately outside the Myanmar Commercial Bank in Sagaing Region’s Monywa City, on Sunday 9 October. 

At about 2:00 p.m. on 9 October, according to the Myanmar Royal Dragon Army [MRDA] defence force, it attacked a junta army sentry post in front of the Myanmar Commercial Bank in Monywa.

The junta soldiers randomly opened fire in retaliation, but the PDF forces had already vacated the area.

“The PDF carried out a bomb attack and hit two [junta] soldiers. When the soldiers opened fire in retaliation  there were no PDFs still in the area, but the junta soldiers continued firing. A boy riding a motorcycle was hit. It was senseless to shoot a civilian”, said a resident.

Despite this, the junta claimed that the young man they had killed was a local PDF member.
