The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Friday, the NUG announced preparation for making lawsuits against the military junta, which has been carrying out violent activities throughout the country, in international courts.
  • According to We Are One, they have been conducting Project Sallawaddy to support the Monywa PDF.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG paid their tribute to those who lost lives in the Spring Revolution. They also pledged that they would prove their words with action for the country.
  • At the United Nations Security Council, Myanmar Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun stated that the military junta, who took people’s power by force, do harm not only to Myanmar but also to the region and other countries.

Revolution Activities

  • In Beelin Township of Mon State, a combined force of the KNLA and PDFs conducted a bomb attack via drone on the junta army near Zeewun Village on Friday.
  • Mr. Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated that the UN human rights organizations must be allowed to enter Myanmar to help provide for the people affected by the ongoing crisis.
  • In Daegu of South Korea, Daegu Sayardaw led a protest against Myanmar’s military dictatorship.
  • On Saturday, a rally in Mandalay marched against the junta election, calling on the public to participate in the nationwide silent strike on the two year anniversary of the military coup.
  • In Mandalay Region, a rally of Pyigyi Dagun marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship, raising a banner against the junta’s election.
  • In Pyigyi Dagun Township, Khin Mg Aye, the junta hundred-household leader in Nya Ward, was shot dead. According to AST-Mdy, they carried it out as a part of the Aung Sidaw Operation.
  • In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to Ywathit Village.
  • In Salingyi Township, the junta armed forces raided 6 local villages, opening gunfire.
  • On Saturday, Taze General Strike marched against the junta’s fake election.
  • In Shwebo Township, PDFs attacked the camp of the junta army and Pyusawti Group in Myinsi Village. Reportedly, no less than 10 Pyusawti members died whereas 18 others were caught and detained in accordance with the law.
  • In Ayadaw Township, an alliance of local PDFs attacked and took control of the camp, where the junta army and Pyusawti had been stationed, in Thalebar Village on Friday.
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of Magwe people, Myaung Youth Network Committee and Monywa Strike Committee marched against the military dictatorship, holding anti-junta signs.
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Saturday. They also showed support for the KIA, PDF and NUG.
  • In Hsi Sai Township of Shan South, there were over 3,000 displaced people within 2 months. Reportedly, they have been in need of accommodation and food.
  • In Thanlyin Township of Yangon Region, local support team would create a YouTube channel to raise fund for the revolution.
  • Starting from February 2023, the revolution movie ‘Only after the Independence’ directed by two comic entertainers - Sein Thee and Aung Thaw – will be shown in foreign countries.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Karenni State, local revolution forces announced on Saturday that all the activities related to the junta election were not allowed in the area and the public were not to take part in it.
  • In Hommalin Township of Sagaing Region, a combined force of PDFs attacked and controlled the strategic point and camps of Shanni Nationalities Army on Friday.

The Military Council

  • In Myitkyina of Kachin State, the military junta issued a curfew and the order for no gathering of people.
  • In Global New Light of Myanmar, the junta’s paper in English, old photos were used along with the news that the number of foreign tourists to Myanmar increased in 2022.
  • According to the junta propaganda team, there were up to 107 bomb and mine attacks on the railroads and in the areas of train stations under the tenure of the military junta for more than one year.
  • The military junta announced that weapons had been confiscated from a light truck near Arnanda Pagoda in Nyaung-U Township of Mandalay Region.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the national economy was on the rise again due to empowerment of local production.

Summary on 28 January

  • Since the military coup, the country has been devastated in all sectors. On the other hand, Min Aung Hlaing told lies that the national economy had increased again.
  • Even amidst the disapproval of the public, the military junta has been making arrangements by force for their election. At the same time, the fighting has become heavier, targetting towards the Immigration, the Election Commission and General Administration Department which would help the junta’s fake election.
