15 Myanmar nationals arrested in Mae Sot, Thailand

15 Myanmar citizens who entered Thailand illegally were arrested at the Hway Ya Oo checkpoint in Mae Sot, in Thailand’s Tak Province when the authorities inspected a truck carrying vegetables, on 27 February, according to Thai media.

The 15 Myanmar nationals who were hiding in the truck were transferred by the Thai authorities to Mae Sot Police Station to be charged.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, several million Myanmar migrants used to work both legally and illegally in Thailand.

The Thai authorities also arrested 246 Burmese migrants and four guides in six border areas of four districts in Kanchanaburi Province, western Thailand, on Friday 11 February and Saturday 12 February, according to the Bangkok Post.
