A total of 1,450 blind and visually impaired people took part in a mass walking event in Myanmar's Yangon to mark the 28th International White Cane Day, according to the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

With 531 helpers, the blind people from 31 blind schools and associations on Tuesday participated in the event organized by the YCDC.

The annual mass walking round the city's main roads aimed to raise the awareness for the need of disabled persons, particularly those with visibility impairments as well as to promote the importance of white cane, a tool symbolizing independence.
