5,000 IDPs in Tanintharyi Region

There are 5,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Tanintharyi Region, 1,150 of whom are in Dawei District and 3,350 of whom are in Myeik District, according to the Dawna Tenasserim- Refugee Supply Force philanthropic organisation.

The IDPs have been fleeing conflict. In Dawei District most of the IDPs have come from the villages of Myay-Khani, Thitkatoe, Ekani, Watchaung, Kamaung Chaung, and Kolontha.  In Myeik District most of the IDPs have come from the townships of Palaw and Tanintharyi.

An official from the Dawna Tenasserim- Refugee Supply Force said, "The number of IDPs has decreased when compared to previous months. Since the coup, the number of IDPs had been increasing every month, and in June, there were nearly 20,000 IDPs in Tanintharyi Region due to the military council's frequent incursions and attacks.”
