Afghan farmers harvest their crops with no guarantee of making ends meet

Afghan farmers harvest apples and grapes in the eastern province of Ghazni, with bittersweet feelings: the yield this year has been better than last year thanks to better weather, but a lot of their products are sold in Pakistan where a weaker currency translates in lesser gains for them. The farmers "are barely surviving", says farmer Nasrat Ahmadi. Afghanistan's economy, already battered by decades of war, has been mired in crisis after billions of dollars in international aid were cut following the Taliban goverment's takeover in August 2021.
