Many informers, also known as Dalan in Burmese, who have been working for the Military Council, are being assassinated or face assassination.

New Township Administrators chosen by the Military Council in each township are also reporting any visitors to their areas and have been commanded to keep a special watch on certain addresses.

Informants who put civilians in danger are being targeted by local defense forces and civilian guerrilla groups.

Two administrators were assassinated recently. According to the Kyaikhto Revolution Force, Khin Tun, an administrator in Bora Gyi village in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township, was also killed on 8 February. He was shot near to Kaw Htin Cemetery between Kaw Htin and Bo Yar Gyi villages.

As soon as the Military Council troops heard the news, nine military vehicles came to check at the scene. It was reported that Khin Tun had been killed while riding a motorcycle and that a woman and child who were also on the motorcycle were injured when it crashed.

On 9 February, an administrator from Thingankyun Gyi village, in Yangon’s Mingaladon Township, was shot dead. The victim, identified as Nay Lin, was shot dead on the Yae Kan Baung Road near Mya Yadanar village whilst riding his motorcycle to work, according to locals.

Mingaladon Township is a military-controlled area and ward administrators and heads of households have been warned to be careful. Straight after Nay Lin was shot military council troops went to the homes of those who lived in the same area as him and interrogated them.

Ward administrators in some townships have also resigned as members of the People's Defense Forces (PDFs) that kill military council informants. As a result, the military council has stationed security personnel in their ward offices, which also act as their homes.

Another informant was shot dead in Mon State’s Ye Township on the same day, 8 February. Ye Naing Win, a former major from the military council and a well-known informant, was shot and killed, according to Ye Township’s Belu members.

"He had good contact with the military council troops and caused conflict between the revolutionaries and the Mon people. He was also a threat to the revolutionaries," a local said.

A Pyu Saw Htee leader from Monywa was also killed recently. Aung Tun (aka Min Min), a Pyu Saw Htee leader from Zee Kyun village in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Township, was shot and stabbed to death, according to a social media post by Captain Sa Nay of the clearing team.

Aung Tun was 39 years old and a former traditional medicine practitioner. It is believed that the military council was acting on his information when its troops carried out arson attacks on five villages in early January.

Ward administrators and the junta military are threatening people with their weapons and running protection rackets in some townships.

In Yangon there is a strong emphasis on the collection of ward guest lists. These are collected by ward administrators and are supposed to list all the non-residents staying overnight in the ward. Apparently, they are mainly targeting the young people that they see and asking landlords and locals whether they are residents of their area or from elsewhere.

PDF members and members of the guerilla forces have issued statements saying that if informants do not stop giving information to government forces they will be dealt with.
