Arakan Army attacks Border Affairs office in Myebon Township, Rakhine State

The Arakan Army (AA) detonated mines at the Ministry of Border Affairs office in Myebon Township, Rakhine State where over 40 junta soldiers were stationed, at around 11 a.m. on 8 September.

The Border Affairs office is in Kanthar Ward in Myebon Township. According to locals there may have been casualties form the attack.

A resident from Myebon Township said: “It happened around 11 a.m. We heard the sound of three mine explosions, later we heard the sound of gunshots. After a while I heard five or six rounds of small arms fire, it wasn’t as loud as before. People are afraid to go to the Border Affairs office, so we don’t know the number of casualties.

Between about 30 to 50 Myanmar Army soldiers have been stationed at the Myebon Township Border Affairs office since 2020, according to locals.

The AA has not yet released a statement about the incident.
