Arakan Army overrun Mee Taik military base in northern Rakhine

The Arakan Army (AA) have taken Mee Taik military base in the northern part of Maungdaw in Rakhine State.

An unnamed village administrator who lives near the base said the AA attacked the Border Guard Forces and occupied Mee Taik military base on 15 September.

"The battle took place at about 4 am. After a fierce battle, the AA occupies the junta base. There may be casualties. We are still investigating. Later, a Military Council fighter jet flew over the base and opened fire,” he said.

There were about 30 Border Guard Forces stationed at Mee Taik military base. The Military Council may have suffered a lot of casualties in the battle, but the exact number is not yet known, locals said.

Another local resident said the sounds of heavy artillery and small arms fire are heard from the combat area.

Mee Taik Village residents have fled to the mountains, forests and nearby areas for safety.

Mizzima contacted an AA spokesman but is waiting for a reply.
