Border guard force captain and his wife shot dead by PDFs in Mon State’s Kyaikhto

A captain of the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) and his wife were shot dead in the morning of 24 August in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State, according to a statement from the Kyaikhto Revolutionary Force-KRF and Bago sub-military region 24 August.

On 24 August at 7:30 am, Captain Win Soe, who held a business role within the Karen BGF, was targeted in an attack near Kawthtin Village and Phayagyi Village in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State. The operation was carried out in conjunction with the Kyaikhto Revolutionary Force (KRF) and the local Waw People’s Defense Force.

Captain Win Soe's car came under gunfire from the Joint Revolutionary Forces. The car subsequently veered into a ditch, resulting in the immediate deaths of Captain Win Soe and his wife. Furthermore, the joint forces seized two firearms, a mobile phone, and identification cards from the scene.

“He mainly does business. He did everything for money,” KRF’s information officer told Mizzima.

According to the Information Officer of KRF, Captain Win Soe is identified as the individual who has utilized weapons to mistreat residents in Kyaikhto Township. Additionally, in 2021, he was responsible for fatally shooting a resident with a firearm.

Furthermore, the Kyaikhto Revolutionary Force-KRF and Bago sub-military region asserted that he is the individual responsible for various misbehaviour, including personally overseeing illegal gambling operations.

He has also reported individuals engaged in the PDF and CDM movements to the police, engaged in unauthorized vehicle smuggling activities, unlawfully seized 300 acres of land in collaboration with the Township Land Management Committee under the Military Council, forced villagers into selling agricultural land by employing intimidation tactics to lower prices, disconnected electricity supply to villages, collected electricity fees, and engaged in the apprehension, assault, and mistreatment of villagers. Moreover, he has been involved in surveillance of political activists, pressuring them to provide information.

Brigadier General Saw Chit Thu leads the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF), which operates as an armed entity under the authority of the Military Council. Reports from revolutionary forces indicate that the BGF is engaged in collaborative military operations with the Military Council across Karen State, Mon State, Bago, and Tanintharyi Regions.
