Census data collection starts in Yangon on 9 January

The Myanmar Junta’s Yangon Region Field Census Supervision Committee will start collecting data for the national population census from inhabitants in the Yangon Region from 9 January 2023.

Officials from ward administration offices in Yangon townships such as North Dagon, East Dagon and South Dagon have announced that they will begin collecting the necessary data on 9 January.

The junta has announced that a national population census will be conducted for 23 days from 9 to 31 January.

It also said that when the census enumerators call at homes, the head of the household or someone who can answer questions for them has to be available at home to answer the enumerators questions. They should also have their household registration documents, their National Identity Cards and those of everyone else living at their house.

The Field Census Supervision Committee announced on 22 December that census enumerators would simultaneously go from door to door across the country collecting census data that will be used in the upcoming Myanmar election in 2023 that is being run by the junta.
