China announced the establishment of diplomatic ties with Honduras on Sunday, which came shortly after Tegucigalpa said it had officially severed ties with Taipei.

"China welcomes (Honduran) President Xiomara Castro to visit China at an early date...We sternly admonish the Taiwanese authorities: engaging in activities that promote Taiwanese independence and separatism…is doomed to a dead end,” said Qin Gang, the Chinese Foreign Minister during the ceremony.
