China said reports that it set up illegal "police stations" overseas which it uses to harass Chinese expatriates are "completely false". The foreign ministry spokesperson on Wednesday added that the stations are used for practical means such as renewing drivers' licenses and other services for Chinese nationals who are unable to return due to the pandemic.

Both Canada and Netherlands have said they are investigating reports of criminal activity in relation to the so-called 'police' stations.
