China on Thursday banned all Japanese seafood imports over what it said was the "selfish" release of wastewater from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.

"(China) will take all necessary measures to safeguard food safety and public health...deciding to suspend the import of aquatic products of Japanese origin from August 24th," said Shu Jueting, China Commerce Ministry spokesperson during a press briefing.
