China says Pacific islands not 'pawns' in power games after Biden's summit

China says Pacific island countries 'should not become pawns' in the game of major powers after US President Joe Biden announced a $810-million new funding for the islands during a recent summit.

"We hope the US can sincerely provide support for Pacific island countries to face climate change and achieve development... instead of playing geopolitical games in the name of cooperation," says Beijing's foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning at a briefing.
