A local guerrilla group said that they mined a convoy carrying the junta’s Sagaing Region Chief Minister Myat Kyaw near Naw Yoe village, east of Yinmarbin Township at around 7 am on 21 February.

The convoy of 10 military vehicles was mined by the North Yama People's Defence Force, damaging the first vehicle. The group said there were casualties on board the vehicle, but could not confirm the exact number of casualties.

Chief Minister Myat Kyaw was not harmed.

"As we attacked the convoy by using landmines, there were casualties on their side. They took their wounded troops in an ambulance,” said a member of the North Yama People's Defense Force.

The group led by Chief Minister Myat Kyaw was attacked while attending an opening ceremony of an oxygen plant at a monastery in Yinmarbin Township. He said that junta’s troops opened fire with machine guns, mortars and heavy weapons after the mine attack.

No casualties were reported from the North Yama People's Defence Force.

Earlier, on 20 February, fighting broke out between fighters of the Yinmarbin District Joint Forces (PDF) and the junta’s troops near Phoe Win Mountain, east of Yinmarbin Township in Sagaing.
