CRPH issues statement after Abe assassination

The Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and elected parliamentarians released a statement saying it was very stunned and saddened to learn of the passing of His Excellency Shinzo Abe, Former Prime Minister of Japan on 8 July 2022.

The statement said: 'His Excellency Shinzo Abe, who has been a good friend of Myanmar, will be remembered for his political leadership and legacy to move Japan as a great nation. Myanmar’s people would never forget for his valuable support to develop economy, democracy, freedom and human rights in Myanmar.'

It also expressed the CRPH's 'heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and to the people and Government of Japan.'

On 8 July at around 11:30 a.m., the 67-year-old former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot and suffered gunshot wounds to his chest whilst he was giving a campaign speech on the street in the city of Nara, near Kyoto.

Despite being taken by helicopter to Nara Medical University Hospital and receiving intensive medical care there, Abe passed away at the hospital at around 5 pm local time.

According to the Japanese news agency TBS, the former Japanese prime minister's funeral will take place on 12 July.
