District police chief’s convoy attacked in Magway’s Thayet Township

A local resistance group attacked a district police chief’s convoy in Thayet township, Magway region yesterday.

An official from the Thayet Region Defence Force (PDF-Thayet) confirmed to Mizzima that a convoy of the Thayet district police chief under the Military Council was attacked with a landmine in Thayet township, Magway region at 2:30 pm on 5 January.

A three-vehicle convoy was hit by a landmine on the Thayet-Kamma Road near Thang Phyu (Thapyu) Village, which borders two townships, on its way back from Thayet township to Kamma township.

"There were three cars with the district police chief. There were a police car and three military vehicles. The extent of the damage is not yet known,” the PDF official said.

The Thayet Region Defence Force urged local people to stay away from Military Council’s main supporters and to refrain from any actions that could prolong the military dictatorship.
