The National Unity Government (NUG) has documented a total of 32,445 displaced persons due to armed clashes between the Miliary Council and the resistance forces in northern Shan State.

Armed clashes escalated after the Three Brotherhood Alliance launched Operation 1027 on October 27, in which MNTJP/ MNDAA, PSLF/TNLA and ULA/AA are taking part.

The people’s defence forces in respective areas have joined in this operation.

According to the statement of NUG, the number of displaced persons from the conflicts are 6,716 in Lashio, 9,023 in Hsenwi, 440 in Kyaukme, 1,100 in Kukkai, 60 in Muse, 5,000 Wa state and 9,106 in its nearby areas, totalling 32,445 until November 3.

It also said that the aerial attacks and artillery shelling have caused 18 civilian causalities including children and women, and 44 injured. The attacks destroyed 80 houses and 12 religious buildings.

NUG also reported that its Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management is coordinating with its officials in delivering humanitarian assistance, including food, temporary shelters and household items, for the displaced persons.

UNOCHA’ report on November 3 said that faith-based organizations and host communities are delivering immediate assistance, including shelter, food, drinking water, hygiene supplies and non-food items in northern Shan State. Almost all of the people newly displaced since 27 October are seeking refuge in religious compounds and few are known to have entered pre-existing IDP sites.
