Final argument to be made to dismiss charges against the Mandalay region Chief Minister

The final argument will be made to dismiss two charges filed by the coup junta against Mandalay region Chief Minister Dr Zaw Myint Maung, according to his lawyer, Kyaw Nyunt.

Mandalay's Aung Myay Thar San Township Court has charged Dr Zaw Myint Maung under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code for inciting riots and Section 25/30 for Disaster Management.

His lawyer was dissatisfied with the indictment and pleaded in the district court to amend it under Criminal Procedures No. 77/2021 and 78/2021 on September 13.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung was sued under Section 505 (b) by Daw Nwe Ni Khaing, Assistant Director of the Mandalay Region District Administration Office, and charged by U Soe Myint Aung, Deputy Township Chief of the Township Administration Office under Section 25/30 for Disaster Management.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, 70, who suffers from leukemia, was detained at Mandalay Obo Prison. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 on 12 August and was treated in Mandalay General Hospital. Having recovered, he was taken to prison again on August 28.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, who is also the vice chairman of the National League for Democracy, is taking medication for cancer.
