Soe Ni Latt, the son of Soe Aye, the former Rakhine State Finance Minister during Thein Sein's government, and members of the Military Council beat and arrested three young men in Gwa township in Rakhine State at 8 PM on January 12, according to local people.

On the evening of January 12, the three men were driving past the house in front of Soe Ni Latt's house and he yelled when he heard the motorcycle noise. A local resident said that the three young men also shouted insults to him and then were beaten and arrested by the military.

"It has been reputed that Soe Ni Latt can call the military whenever. He was called to the military and three young men were captured at their homes by Soe Ni Latt and junta soldiers. At the time of the arrest, Soe Ni Latt and soldiers beat and swore rudely to these three young men," he said.

It is not yet known where the three young men were taken away by the military council, and their families have not yet been contacted, said a Gwa resident.
